children recently moved to CH & mothers who need advice

Hi, I don't know if you can help me or if this is the proper place to talk about this but... let's try.

I came to CH (Zürich) in June 2011 with my 5 years old son. I am a single mother and we came to live with my mother, who's here since 2005. My son started kindergarten in July - he had around 3 weeks of "classes" - but I'm very afraid of his integration because he's kind of rebell... I try to put him in things he may enjoy, like expeditions in the forest with other children but I have the feeling that it's quite impossible to make him follow the rules... And here in CH children seem much well behavioured than in Portugal, our country. :msnblush:

The question is: do you know of any group of mothers who talk (in english) about their experiences and help each others just with conversation and ideas? This is quite embarasing because CH seems full of Super Mummys but, anyway, I think I need help here.

Thank you for the attention

The American Women's Club of Zurich whose clubhouse is near Werd in the City of Zurich http://www.awczurich.org/ and Moms and Tots at International Protestant Church www.ipc-zurich.org/ held in the French Reform Church above Stadelhofen Bahnhof both have mom support groups in English. They both happen on Wednesday mornings, especially during the school year. Contact them. They have wonderful resources to share.

The WAC in Uster is a good place too to meet english speaking Mums, Dads 'n' kids who are also trying to integrate into Swiss schools & way of life.
The WAC have organized play groups on different afternoons in the week.

There are no super Mummies here, only those that pretend they are and those of us who wouldn't dream of wasting our energy.. :D

I too have "different kids" a head strong 7 year old and a wild 3 year old so I get what your saying.

Hang-on in there, it will get better and welcome to Switzerland :)

Maybe you should rather talk to some of the other Portuguese mothers. There are quite a few of them in Switzerland. It might give you more specific ideas.

Lol, it is certainly true that in Portugal kids are raised as little kings and queens! When we go there with our children to see my partner's family, they certainly enjoy it! And it's always quite a shock for them to go back to real life in Switzerland ;)

Agreed. We just had a holiday in Portugal and I've never been anywhere where kids were so well treated and genuine enjoyed by everyone everywhere!
