Ok, to make it really clear ... I found that you considered me to be pushy and aggressive somewhat ironic as I can sometimes see the benefit in being a pushy and aggressive parent when it comes to the treatment my younger son sometimes receives .. in the sense that I wish I was better at being more forward about complaining about these things.

Anyway, we are getting seriously off topic here ....

That's no excuse for the way children are being killed in the USA and many of the parents are doing it. Its gruesome, are you trying to say population is an excuse? You don't have children do you?

I surrender! You've won the argument!

How can I possibly have any idea about anything if I don't have children?

I shall go and hang my head in the corner, flagellating myself with a flaccid cucumber.

(now turn your brain on and consider how many more perverts there are likely to be in a nation of 300 million compared to a nation of 8 million)

Good, go in your corner and hide. Someone stated that it "rarely" happens in the USA, it happens frequently, too much as a matter of fact. It's getting more gruesome by the day. Babies, toddlers, pre-teens it doesn't matter, all children are game. It's sickening. You don't have children so you don't comprehend that, you think the "population" is an excuse for sickening behavoir...yes, you loose

No it's not, it's happening every week in the USA. They found a little boy who asked a stranger for directions recently cutup in the strangers freezer. Feet and all. Just last week a gorgeous little girl was abducted found her dead too. The stories are endless and sad too...
Statistics please. "Just last week..." isn't a statistic, it's an anecdote.

The US is one huge media pool. Gruesome crimes that happen in Estonia don't make it to Swiss news; gruesome crimes that happen in Wyoming or Louisiana do get reported in New York. That's why crime levels need to be compared by statistics, not perceived frequency of news reports.

(This is just Critical Analysis 101. They should really really teach this stuff in Swiss schools. If I were a high school teacher.... oh wait.)

Look, just type in child killings or crime in USA, simple really. You will get a "load" of news. Do I have to do all the work? USA is supposed to be an "industrialized, civilized" nation. These type of things you don't expect in such a country, but it's happening...Look it up for yourself. I don't want to spoil the fun for you. I have no reason to lie or exxagerate. I wish it were different, but unfortunately it isn't...

"A load of news" is not the same thing as "per capita statistics". Please reread my post above.

Look, I'm not going to get into a game with you. Look it up for yourself. It's the USA remember, it won't be that hard to find. I have other things to do, don't be lazy. It's not a funny subject and you're trying to make it into a farce. Check it for yourself, then come back with your POV...

Who gives a bugger about the United States, anyway?

You're obsessed with comparing that country unfavourably with Switzerland, yet when you lived here, you had nothing good to say about Switzerland or the Swiss.

How about trolling a thread about something slightly less important, eh?

Being unable to substantiate a sweeping statement is neither lying or exaggerating.

If I rightly recall from my school days the phrase "loads of" in statistical information was usually marked with a big sarcastic stroke of a red pen.

I certainly am not. You were the one claiming that abduction by strangers never happens, "not in all your years in Switzerland", because "Swiss kids are more mature". You're wrong, and normally I try not to jump on people for being wrong on the internet - done it myself often enough - but in this case I found your comment flat-out irresponsible (as it promotes a false sense of security), and I said so.

Now you're moving the goal posts trying to talk about parents in the US who murder their kids.... and then you wonder why I insist on statistics instead of volleying anecdotes back and forth. We're not even talking about the same crime any more.

Sorry, I'd be happy to discuss this topic with you further but only when you have a reasonable, non-sensationalist point to make.

Between the two...Switzerland is better...IMHO. I still live in Switzerland and I come to realize through my travels that "it is one of the better" countries to live in. However, I never stated that Switzerland was perfect. I will bash Switzerland when necessary and USA too.

Once in four years! Boy, that's a gruesome statistic. It's just like someone saying "I never get ill, except in the winter months." It's bad regardless of when it happens. Maybe I should have wrote "except once every 10 years." Swiss children are more mature that's why you don't have the epidemic of teen pregnancies, that's why children as young as 5yrs can walk to school alone, that's why the average "Swiss" child can speak 3 languages, that's why you don't have an epidemic of overweight, obese children etc..Don't worry, I don't need your attention. It's not my job to "make you happy." Let's put it this way..." prove me wrong."

Err... you haven't actually come up with any information that can be either proved or disproved thus far. Anecdotes and hearsay are funny like that

You've asked people who challenge you to look up the factual information for themselves.

That's right, we have the internet now. I gave you information, now prove me wrong. If I haven't given any information "what the hell are you writing about?"...

No you gave your anecdotes with your opinion. Are you expecting people to disprove that?

Loads of people wear black socks. Prove me wrong.

Re: Letter from school warning parents about strangers

This is a difficult subject that all parents must face, I'm privileged to be home and able to raise my kids. I live in a quite countryside area with a mix of farms and houses. My son is in the 1st. grade and my daughter will start kindergarten next year. Like almost all communities around this country, most kids need to walk next to or cross busy streets. I walk my son 3/4s of the way to school and have a clear view of the rest of his walk. Fortunately, there are several other mothers that walk their kids and cover the two busiest ways to the school. I certainly make my presence known and other kids along the way have gotten used to seeing my son and I, and I think they feel safer. I'm very protective of my children anyways, but next year I'll be even more vigilant when my daughter starts. When I'm not walking with my son, I'm driving him. My wife tells me that it's good for him to walk in snow storms, being from sunny Southern California, I can't bare to let my son walk in a blizzard! Last winter, I drove him in some hard core storms, and I felt so bad seeing other kids walking into snow being blown in their face. Back on the subject, I was just going over the scenarios again with my son. Like if someone says we sent them because we are in trouble or in the hospital, and this person will take him to us.... And to run to a parent in the area or a house along the route for help.

Take it anyway you want...Thank goodness for my "Swiss" friends who are parents or anyone else reading this thread would think Switzerland is a "war-zone" for children. Many "over-reactions" are totally unnecessary, but that comes from the country people come from. They carry those fears with them from their countries and don't take the time to really "know" the new place they are in. They just pick up from where they left off in their home countries. We always have to be cautious, but many not used to Swiss culture over do it, totally!
