In praise of the UKBB

Sometimes I'm just so glad to be in Switzerland!

Tonight, my youngest boy, just before bedtime fell off the bed and smacked his head on a shelf unit. A lot of blood and a ludicrously large cut to the back of his head.

So off we all toddled to the UKBB (new Basel kids hospital) thinking "oh god we'll be here all night."

Park the car in the free parking right in front of the door.
Walk in, seen by a nurse immediately. There's nobody waiting in the chairs area.
5 minutes later, seen by a doctor who decided "messy, needs fixing but not that serious, no concussion or anything" put in cubicle to wait for someone to do cleanup & glue.
Waited maybe 20 minutes, with someone popping in and out to check on us.
Then another 10 minutes for doing the stuff. Other cubicles did seem to be full so wasn't that there was nobody else there, and we were not an especially serious case or anything.

Everyone who dealt with my son was so nice, friendly, brilliant attitude with kids - spoke to them with just the right "level" iykwim.

My older son had to come with us as I couldn't really let my husband take little one on his own as he was bleeding. And he was really upset to see his little bro injured. Doctor took the time to explain to my older son what was going on too and that little bro would be just fine.

All in all we did just over an hour round trip - including driving time. Brilliant service - hats off to the UKBB.

Little one is doing fine by the way. Hardly batted an eyelid the whole procedure. Parents still a bit in shock

Just thought I'd say if anyone is taking an unexpected trip there anytime soon

Thanks for sharing! Yeah, it's what I know from my ER times (long ago), with an entry in the patient's record: "Main therapy: Calming down the upset parents." Glad your experience was so positive.
