Optometrist/Opthamologist

Hi, I'm looking for an optometrist or opthamologist in Biel who speaks English. Can anyone make a recommendation? Also, what do appointments usually cost? Appreciate any help.

I'm sorry, I don't really know anything about Biel. I can say though that when I checked with the Opticians at Fielmann here in Basel, they charge 25chf for a regular exam there. I have heard that Opthalmologists charge ballpark of 200 or 250chf - these fees are pretty consistent with the fees I was used to seeing from Optometrists and Opthalmologists in the US.

So far as getting a recommendation for Opthalmologists, from my time working in optics in the US, I will say to stop by the local Opticians and ask who they recommend. Usually they become very familiar with the MD offices both from having to contact them on behalf of patients and with feedback from patients themselves.

Re: Optometrist/Opthamologist

Go to the local eye hospital, they will be able to carry out all standard tests & have everything on hand if there is anything more 'interesting'. It's not that expensive either.

Re: Optometrist/Opthamologist

Thanks. I'll check with the local opticians offices. I couldn't find a local "eye hospital." Are you able to provide a link to one?

Re: Optometrist/Opthamologist

Searching "augenspital biel" shows me Basel - that may be your nearest specific although there is also an augenklinik as part of the Unispital in Bern.

I used www.doctor.ch when searching for my GP, usually as part of the info on that website the doctors will list what languages they speak. After you select which sort of doctor you're looking for, you can click the flags or cantons on the map to narrow the search to that area.

Your profile lists you to be in Bern but as the search results showed me the Augenspital in Basel as the nearest (and I am unfamiliar with Biel as anything more than a train stop between here and Bern), I'm unsure which will be better for you to search... you can of course search both (or whatever other canton you may like ) to see what's available nearest.
