Advice needed - separation, prospective citizenship, residence permit questions

I am a foreigner from a North American country who's lived with a Swiss spouse for nearly 5 years in Switzerland, so getting my citizenship is possible in about 6 months. My spouse is an alcoholic, who's really hard to live with! We have a little girl who is a dual citizen. If I separate from him, does anyone know what would happen? Could my I still remain here in CH to raise my daughter? Would they just kick me out? I have no family to return to where I am from!! I don't know what to do!

Re: Caught in a sticky situation...HELP! please!

Depends on what permit you have. If you've already started the process for Swiss citizenship, it's not taken lightly if you are living in a 'scheinehe'- martial problems or not.

Best bet for you is to contact your local Frauenzentral or even go to the gemeinde to the Vormundschaften (they will help in any way for your child's well being). Good luck!

Thanks for your response....and I'm not in a sham marriage! I've been with my spouse for many years before we married....he just started being like this a few years ago.

They will help even for your well being not just the child's. A friend yesterday told me of a very similar situation taking place a month or 2 ago. The lady went to the Frauenhouse and they eventually sent a bill to the husband for the costs to keep her there because she depended on him financially and was in such a situation because of his actions and behaviour (I had never heard of such a thing taking place but I think she would not have said so unless it was the case). Remember don't be afraid to go to the police or Frauenhaus when/if you need. Your (and your child's) health and safe-being come first, be it physical as well as psychological.

I cannot say anything though about the permit thing. I am sure that others will be able to advise better.
