Hmmm...looks like your friend is watching the scale little too much, a kilo here or there is really irrelelant (as it has been said, water retention, salt, maybe a few days worth of diet heavier than usually, or more sedantery schedule over 3 days, hormonal build up prior period, etc...). I know the battle with "let's push a few more hundred grams over 50kg, ugh", just lost 4kilos in 2 weeks due to fevers and worries, and it's crap. But I would only worry about 3-4 kilos within a few days, and if they stay (and only your friend does not want to put a bit more curve on her, only then)..
MusicChick, over 4 kilos is too much to have lost in 2 weeks, for someone who only appears to weigh about 30.
4 kilos of good Swiss chocolate might help to redress the balance

Hey, how did you know...I have prescribed myself that fabulous Merkur whole almonds in plain chocolate, oh my, the best medicine on earth, and the never ending endorphines! Next comes raclette and fondue, it's waiting in the frigo

Re: Sudden weight gain

With a huge chunk of Grumpy cheese. Our posts crossed MC.

Isn't this stupid- some of us just can't lose weight and others can't put it on. And on a world wide basis, a large part of the world is starving, another dying of too much of everything.

Yes, it would be quite easy. Consider that, for example, I might drink 4 large beers before needing a toilet visit - that's 2kg just in itself. A large meal might be another kg, and in reverse (as previously mentioned) a toilet visit may be able to get rid of a similar amount in one go, particularly for the larger proportioned person.
I don't drink pints and pints of beer, but I do drinks loads of water. I think comparitively maybe my weight fluctuation is more than other people, but it's been that way for as long as I can remember, even when I weighed about 67% of what I currently weigh.

Well, if she cuts her toe nails and cleans out her ear wax, she can make a round 50. Sorry, but anything past the decimal point is irrelevant for adults.

Seriously though, your friends weight obsession is a cause for concern. As discussed in many other threads, weight is only one of many health, fitness and well-being factors. In recent months, I've gained weight but lost size due to a different sport activity and muscle gain. Focus on how you feel, how your clothes fit as well, not just the scales.
