Unbelievably I am already coming up to the halfway point of my maternity leave before I have to go back to work full time, so want to start getting the whole pumping thing figured out. My hospital told me to just go to the pharmacy to rent a pump, but the one they sent me to no longer rents them. As I will need to be doing a lot of pumping and want to find something that allows me to do it as quickly as possible since I will have to do it at work, I would like to get a double electric model so the only real option is to rent it as buying is way too expensive!

Anyone have any suggestions on pharmacies that do rent these??

Depending on how long you're going to use it for, renting may not be the cheapest option. There are several double pumps out there that are very good and they are much smaller and more portable than the massive rental pumps that come in a small suitcase. You will also have to buy all your own parts to go with the rental pump. Also, check with your health insurance, they may pay for some/all of the cost of either a rental or purchasing a pump.

I bought a Medela Freestyle (subsidised by my insurance) and highly recommend it after using it for the better part of a year after going back to work.

You can rent a medela symphony - which is the big hospital grade double pump - from Triemli hospital. The rental is actually through Medela and the cost is CHF3/day.

Health insurance should cover some part of this rental, usually about CHF2/day so you pay just 1 franc per day. The invoice comes from Medela, you pay them, then submit to insurance for a refund.

You have to buy the kit - which includes the tubes, the part that goes on to the breast, and the part which attaches from there to the bottle. I think that 2 bottles should come with as well. I think this kit is CHF65. You can get this kit at baby stores as well (try Bebehaus Wehrli near Schafhauserplatz).
