I am newly pregnant and live in Basel-Stradt.

Since this is my first time, I am looking for a good gynaecologist and midwife in Basel.

Can anyone please give me some advice?

As for a midwife/gynae, you obviously get to choose who you want (a rather novel experience for me coming from the NHS system of the UK) but exactly who to go for depends a little on how you see your pregnancy/birth progressing .. ie. natural childbirth, in a midwife led unit, at home, at hospital etc etc.

Give us some clues so we can get back to you with our suggestions

Similar experience here - I never used an obstetrician/gynaecologist - it's possible to use a birthing centre and only see midwives...

Don't feel 'locked in' to the first person you see - ask around - my first question would not be 'which doctor' but 'which hospital' ? Once you know which hospital, then you will be directed to whatever midwives/doctors work at that hospital/delivery suite/birthing centre.

I guess you also may be limited by your health cover - does your health cover give better rebate for one hospital vs. another, or one model of care vs. another...how much are you prepared to pay for a 'gap'...

Heya, just wanted to say congratulations! Can't add any words of advice apart from the fact that I know quite a few women who have given birth in Basel and each has had a good experience.

Seeing as this is my first child, I would like to give birth in a hospital where there are doctors around to be on the safe side.

How about University hospital in Basel? is it a good start from there?
