Re: when and how : after pregnancy weight reduce

Ha!! 15 kgs?? that's nothing... I gained 27 kg!!!! I breastfed for an entire year. I was a stay at home mom, I didn't exercise other than walking the dogs 4 times a day & I didn't diet at all. In fact I ate whatever I wanted. It took me a whole year but I lost it all. I'm thinner now than I was before I got pregnant Good luck!!

yes i am breast feeding and she is already one month now...
i think i should wait for my 6 week gynaec check up...
i actually did not reduce any weight...i should have reduced atleast 3 kg n 280 grams (my baby's weight when she was born)..i only eat the three time mealn no extra calories
i have to work this out ...i dont feel good when look at self ...
one more thing why do i sweat so much in the night even if it is not hot???
First of all congratulations, being a mom is awasome
Now give yourself a break, getting back in shape is not the most important thing right now. Be careful with breast feeding because (to me and some of my friends) right after breast fed you get a rush to eat whatever and that is actually not hunger but your body asking for water. If you manage to drink water instead of eating you will be fine. The milk you produce is mostly fat so while the baby is sucking the fat away you put in only healty food and tons of water and all will be back to normal soon. Also as soon as you can make the pram cozy to avoid cold for your baby and go out as walk as much as you can.
Everybodies advise are great and i just added my pich. Good luck mommy!

Get her a padded pram suit thing - don't stay in doors - I had my baby in November and took him out most days in the cold, obviously well wrapped up. It's good for her and you

I wonder if breastfeeding can work both ways. It burns about 500 calories per day but if you don't eat enough, maybe the body goes into conservation mode and starts packing on the kilos?

Re: when and how : after pregnancy weight reduce

I kept avoiding this thread because it make me feel bad about myself....

My son is going to be 6 months and I am still 6 kilos over (I took 18 when I was pregnant). I am having hell lot of trouble to get rid of them. My thyroid is not under control, yet, again! I have hashimoto disease, so it makes it very hard to lose. I am swelling of water in my entire body which makes my weight going down of 2 kilos on one morning of intense toilet visits. (happy to share)

I don't eat much and I watch what I eat. We just bought an Elliptical trainer which should arrive some day in a week or two (maņana, maņana...)

Until then, I am avoiding mirror and I try to not think about my weight.... obviously something I am not very successful at because every girl I see, I ask myself; Me, why me? Why can't I go back to what I was before? So you see, pretty depressing....

Nil.... please don't feel like that, you've just had a healthy baby and so many people say that you are a beautiful young lady.

The weight disappears with the exercise. Exercise will boost your metabolism and you will burn calories quickly throughout the day. By Christmas you'll be back to the way you like to be.

I hope you feel good about yourselves, all of you young mamas, you have every reason to.

Re: when and how : after pregnancy weight reduce

so you say, but I'm not sure that's true

Anyway I just remember my own childbearing years, a long time ago, and how I felt about it waiting for the body to return to shape. It really does take several months.

Re: when and how : after pregnancy weight reduce

Hi & Congrats on your baby!!
I would wait for your doctor`s appointment to see if everything is well. Depending on the method of birth (c-section/ vaginal) and how you are healing, you should be careful.

Usually, women wait about 6 weeks to start exercising after they have given birth, 8 if they have had a c-section.

starting with very simple, non-stressful exercises, like leg stretches is good. It is recommended to continue kegel exercises to strengthen you pelvic floor muscles. If you've had a cesarean, it is best to wait until you've stopped bleeding and your doc has given you the ok before you start doing any form of postnatal exercises.

If you are breastfeeding, make sure your breasts are well supported when you exercise. You may find that they need to wear 2 bras just to feel properly supported. Also, try to breastfeed your baby before you exercise. This will help you feel more comfortable since your breasts won't feel full.

Apparently some babies who are fed post-workout can be fussier because their mother's milk tastes sour due to an increased level of lactic acid in the milk. If you can't feed your baby before the workout, then try pumping. This will help to make your breasts feel less full as well as make your baby happy with the pre-exercise milk. Also, try to keep your breasts dry and clean, which will help prevent your breast ducts from getting clogged and possibly infected.

My good friend have lost all of their baby weight not long after the baby. Advice from my friend: finding someone who recently had a baby as well and going for 2 hour walks daily with the strollers really helped. after a few months, joining a gym where they have a child care and being dedicated to a scheduled routine of exercised worked. after breastfeeding, she also cut down on a lot of fats and carbs.

Good luck! And remember, you are not fat.... you just had a baby!! there is a good reason for it! Its not like you visited the Lindt Chocolate factory one too many times

Oh and I just read somewhere for most people, it takes about 9 months to lose most of the baby weight.

Re: when and how : after pregnancy weight reduce

I too have hashimoto hypothy.
Yoga does help a lot but then don't get time atall to do it anymore.

If you are breastfeeding you shud take care of your diet as your emery n other nutrients requirement increase considerably.
It's better to be bit overweight than suffering from nutrients deficiency

Moreover it's just the beginning. Don't be too hard on yourself. My midwife advices me not to do any exercise till 3 mths n said you have done a big job( delivering) now it's all about you n ur baby.enjoy this time n pamper yourself as body is weak n needs time to get back to normal.fortunately I lost all the gained wgt in 3 days and now my baby is 3 n half months and since my last reply to this thread I have lost 2 more kgs.now I m all time low in last 6 yrs. Thanks to my hyper lil devil.

Fortunate

Re: when and how : after pregnancy weight reduce

my tip for losing pregnancy weight: reluctantly give in and accept your new size/shape and go out and buy a whole load of new clothes to fit you properly.... Murphy's law dictates that shortly afterwards your lovely new clothes will be too big for you!

In all seriousness, you've got some great advice already and as other posters have already said - it took 9 months to put the weight on, and as in any weight loss situation, it's just not good for you or your metabolism to loose it too quickly. 1 month is still very early days! If you intend on continuing to breastfeed, those extra energy stores are also important to maintain your milk supply in the long term - that's what they are there for.

In my case I put on in excess of 15kg and by 4 months postpartum had barely lost anything since the initial loss of 3kg of baby (hence the above mentioned shopping trip to finally get out of the maternity clothes I was still wearing - for me all extra weight goes straight to my butt and thighs, so I couldn't even pull my normal jeans up, nevermind attempt to fasten them). Within a couple of weeks of said shopping trip, the weight started falling off (don't know if it was coincidence or not, but it was also roughly the same time my periods returned, so perhaps it was all hormone related), and by 9 months I'd dropped 4 kg below my pre-pregnancy weight with zero effort on my part, besides breastfeeding. At one point I was really struggling to keep weight on so for a while I was drinking the build-up calorie drinks from the pharmacy, I just couldn't eat enough food.

It took til around 18 months for everything to really stabilise and feel like I had anything like my old body back again, though I still never regained my former fitness levels just through not having the luxury of as much time as I used to dedicate to exercise or as much sleep as I ideally needed. As far as exercise goes, I was advised by the midwife who ran my post-natal course not to do anything high impact (like running) til around 6 months, to avoid damaging the pelvic floor further, but everyone's different - listen to your body, start out slow and gentle and don't overdo it.

Everyone's body is different, and has a different story to tell, but please just be patient and sensible about it!

good luck

Re: when and how : after pregnancy weight reduce

After my first pregnancy I had 7 kilos to lose, I joined a gym when my baby was 4 months old. There was a child care there so it was easy. I was breasfeeding on demand so I just had to pop down to the room. As I was not slimming down I also changed my eating habits and followed the cardio routine given by the instructor. I did not go on a diet as such, but cut on carbo at night , only ate poulty and more vegetables. I lost these extra kilos pretty quickly then.

with my 2nd baby, she was 10 months when we moved to switzerland and as I was not working then, I started to go to the gym again and take her with me.

Sport will help lose the weight and tone up your body. Good luck

yeah and just when you get back into shape you get pregnant again... ha!

after my third child i have accepted my body shape is now completely different and with my baby now 9 months old I am back to pre-pregnancy clothes through exercise (I gave myself time because it was my third c-section) not to lose weight but to get my stomach muscles stronger again.

be careful if you are up in the dead of night feeding a baby and covered in sweat... if you hold your baby poorly you might strain a muscle in your shoulder/neck... and damn that is hard to get over

I've avoided this thread too!! The first page is full of "I had no problem losing the 6kilos I put on"
I have to wonder how true those posts are.
There are women who are BLESSED with fast metabolism, and a uterus that is placed far behind, therefore they almost do not show for the first 6 months.
I am 'blessed' with 2 anorexic sister-in-laws, that had flat tummies with 2month old babies. . But then again, they are 5&4 years younger than me, and I have noticed their eating habits, which is really so sad.
I would rather drink Milk, eat eggs, enjoy a well prepared meal, savour a well prepared steak (with sauce), and be content.

I would rather be the slightly overweight family member, but I'm happy. Food is important to me, especially good tasting food. There is enough time to lose the extra kilos. Being fit and healthy is more important than being a size 34
