Re: need to arrange a family doctor .

If you have normal health insurance, you can go to any FMH doctor in Winterthur, you do not pay the doctor, he will send you a bill,

http://yellow.local.ch/en/q/Winterth....html?rid=KFat take your health insurance card and your permit on your first visit.

Re: need to arrange a family doctor .

We are searching for one as well. Check www.doktor.ch as the list is pretty comprehensive.

Re: need to arrange a family doctor .

In our area it is not that simple as there is a shortage of GPs family doctors- which will soon get worse are those left are of retirement age.

Re: need to arrange a family doctor .

You may need to hunt around a bit before you can find a doctor who is taking on new patients. I recently changed doctors. I rang between 8 -10 practices only to be told 'Doctor so-and-so is not accepting new patients'. Finally one receptionist, having told me they were 'full', suggested a doctor who might be taking new patients.

If you want a doctor who speaks English, it could be even harder!

When I saw this new doctor for the first time, I was in there for I think 45 mins; I got the bill today - 113 CHF. But I do have a complex medical history! It's hard to give you a general idea of costs, because depending on what you discuss the billing will be different - if it's a general consultation, a diagnostic conversation, if it's deemed to be a 'specialist' consultation or a therapeutic discussion, if you have a blood test... all seem to be billed at different rates!

Re: need to arrange a family doctor .

basically, know if your preferred doctor passed a board exam or has a license. oh, this is a tricky part where you have to be careful about. i read am article (forget what it was) and it says, try to ask some questions to the doctor coz if he/she can't answer it, then choose another doctor. good luck. these are just tips

If you live in Winterthur, you can go to

Along the left side you'll see
Aertzliste

Click on that

Or follow this link:
http://www.wintimed.ch/Aerzteliste.a...ID=10&navID=13

The dots represent practices associated with wintimed. Wintimed is a network of docs associated with the Swiss medix (medex?). It's a practice organization, sets standards for how to care for patients within the group, and also refers within the group to keep costs down. I've been pretty happy with them, although I choose my own specialists.

Anyway, when I lived in Bern I had a great primary care doc and he was associated with this network, so when we moved to Winti, this is how I found a new one.

Many, many docs speak English, especially if they're under 50. Even 60.

Within this network, maybe even within the kanton, your insurance is billed first, so you don't pay to set up anything- or I didn't.

So look at the map, pick a dot convenient to you and give them a call- they might not all be primary care tho.

Also, in the map, there's a link at the bottom right for an a-z list. Good luck! I'm sure you'll find one.

Try: Dr. Irene Bonsall
family doctor, general and internal medicine and positive psychotherpay Gellert, Basel
Umm. The OP lives in Winti - Basel is a good hour or more away. Maybe Dr Bonsall is fab, but she's sort of far for a family doctor.
