| | Giving birth in Geneva
Hello there,
I'm moving to Geneva from Australia with my husband in December and I am pregnant, due in May. I am currently in the process of looking at options for appropriate hospitals and finding medical practitioners etc.
We are thinking of living in the Nyon/Rolle area at this stage. We will have private health cover and in terms of the birth, I want a natural birth but would be partial to intervention if absolutely necessary.
Can anyone recommend any good hospitals or clinics around this area, and reputable obstetricians and/or gynecologists who I could contact prior to the move to secure a spot? I am concerned that I will miss out on the good ones if I leave it too long!
Any help and tips would be wonderful.
Many thanks.

Crans pres Celigny has a birthing house, it is called Maison de naissance, with natural birth ways, doula, etc. My friend was thrilled there, gave birth to her 2 babes there, I checked on her there and it seemed all ok. I wouldn't have done it since it seems a tad grimy to me, and there is a staircase up, super steep. I don't know that many moms who would comfortably climb up just after birth. But the sage femme Nathalie was good, everyone swears by her.
For hospital birth, go to Morges, fabulous reputation. Avoid Nyon, my experiences were attrocious and I am still trying to sort out the consequences, but as staff rotates there a lot, it might be completely fine there again. Ask for a tour, then decide.

OP, You mentioned you have private insurance, but are you sure? Not too many private insurers accept pre-conditions, and as such moving here already preganant often means basic insurance only. If indeed you have private there are number of clinics I would recommend in the Geneva area, but not sure if you are definitely living in the Rolle/Nyon area. If Rolle, I would look more towards Lausanne, and there are indeed some nice clinics there. No experience with Morges hospital. If in Nyon, I would recommend going to Grangettes or similar in Geneva. But in the end, it will be your OBGYN and insurance that will oftern determine where you will give birth. Some drs. only practice as certain private clinics.

In fact it is rite here. Maison de naissance La Grange Rouge. Rue du Village 5. 1274 Grens. Tél. 022 362 03 72. Fax 022 362 03 75 |
