Our life had been so tipped upside down at this point ... I didn't want to live this way anymore. I wanted a life! He told me to live our life here like we were never leaving... and I did.
I did my best to soak myself in Switzerland until my fingers went pruney. I stopped trying to run away from Switzerland.
And it all changed due to an adjustment in my attitude.
I finally feel like I have a home.

Happy birthday! It is mine too, after only one month in Lausanne, and I hope that in a year's time I will be settled in, feeling as happy here as you are...

Wish I'd had the sense to re-think things like this 30+ years ago!
Instead, I've wasted most of that time believing hubby when he said we'd be going home in a year or so, and so didn't get into the 'we're here to stay' mind-set. Of course, getting a work permit as a trailing spouse was nigh on impossible in those days, no Schengen in the late '70s.
Happy Birthday Nic80, glad to hear that you're happy here!

Happy Birthday!
I wish I could write the same in one year.
I immediately started thinking of Switzerland as my home and I have new friends there (I am in my home country for a few weeks now and I am looking forward to go back home, to Thalwil), but I really miss having a job. I am so bored of staying home with the child. And I am afraid of starting to look for the job, because now I am thinking about myself as temporary unemployed, and if I try and fail many times, I will lose my hope and will have to finally admit myself being a housewife, which I hate.
I am so happy for the changes in your life. I think you are amazing person and I will try to follow your example.
