Questions about an elective caesarean in Zurich + OB recommendations

My husband and I are hoping to fall pregnant with our second child early this year. I had an elective caesarean (ie no medical requirement) for the birth of our first child outside of Switzerland and would like to have a caesarean birth in a private Zurich hospital for our next child. We have full private medical insurance. I am wondering:
1. Is it possible to have an elective caesarean in Zurich?

2. Would health a health insurance company generally be required to cover the costs for an elective caesarean, given a valid full private health insurance policy (I will follow up with my insurance company)?

3. Can anyone who has had a caesarean here provide a recommendation for an obstetrician in Zurich (preferably near Thalwil) and perhaps share a little about their experience and why the doctor is recommended?

4. Does anyone have any comments to make about the private hospitals in Zurich (silver coast side or city centre pref)?

Re: Questions about an elective caesarean in Zurich + OB recommendations

I wish you'd received some responses from this now older thread. I've got some of the same questions, so I am bumping it up rather than starting a new one.

Edit: For some reason, when I first found the thread it showed no replies. Now when I check for responses, I see pages of them. Yay.

Well as far ad I know once you've had cesarian every birth after that will HAVE to be one as well. I dunno, but I had always heard that. So theoretically any doctor would have to give you another one...public or private.

Re: C-Section on request

That's old advice. Some women have vaginal births after c-sections, it's really a choice to consider.

As for the question by little_isabella...perhaps you want to post some specific questions, although with the understanding that most of us are not medically trained and you are best advised to seek the opinion of your doctor or midwife...

And certainly in the UK, the approach is that if your previous birth was a c section then unless there are obvious medical reasons apparent during the pregnancy why you cannot have a vaginal birth, the vaginal birth route will always be attempted first.

My best friend in the UK had a really traumatic emergency C Section for her first child. He was not breathing, she was losing lots of blood .. the works. So for her second child she decided to ... give birth naturally at home. And do you know what .. she did. I still find that story amazing 5 years on.

Not all of us are so lucky though as to be able to reverse the outcome so dramatically in subsequent pregnancies and it upsets me when c sections are often frowned on by the natural birth brigade. We all just want a healthy baby.

Oh these are just questions about the experiences women have had in Zurich with an elective c. Not something a medical person/doctor could answer, so this forum is ideal. =)

That was valid about 10years ago or more. C sections are done far better today and the risk of the C section cut to tear is very minimal.

An elective C Section is possible.

My first daughter was in the breech position, and I opted for a C section, rather than a breech birth, there were too many risks.
My second daughter turned early, and I had a natural birth at a birthing house, no problems.

Having had both birthing options, I would opt for a natural birth again. mainly because I dont like to take so many painkillers which were necessary after the C section. And the time it took to be able to get out of bed again like a normal person!
