Expectant mothers / mothers-to-be in Neuchatel canton

I live and work in Neuchatel and am expecting my first child next year (at 4 months currently). I am looking for prenatal/antenatal classes in the area in English. (I know it is a bit early, but I want to make sure I can schedule in advance). My French is pretty decent, but I am afraid I will miss 20 to 30% of what's being said if I take a class in French and that misses the point of taking the class. I was hoping to take a class with other English-speaking mothers/couples, both to hear their questions and to have potential people to meet outside of the class.

Would any English-speaking couples expecting in the area be interested in organizing a prenatal class with a local midwife with me sometime in the next few months?

I know there are some English prenatal classes in Geneva, and possibly one in Lausanne, but given that both my husband and I work, we want to try to find something a little bit closer.

Please let me know if you may be interested.

Hi, unfortunately I do not know about any english prenatal classes in Neuchatel. You may try Bern, there is supposed to be more english speaking expats. But according to our english friend, everything went ok when she was giving birth at Pourtales some 2 years ago - and she did not almost speak any french. But it was already her second (first in Neuchatel, though). If you're really interested I can contact her - she moved back to England.

If you find any English language prenatal classes, or otherwise have any tips for a pregnancy here for someone with not great French, please let me know. I live in Neuchatel too and am expecting my first in July!

You might be want to contact a hebame/sage femme who would definitely know whether such classes are available. Otherwise, why not ask them directly for a private class? Also pretty sure if you ask for a clarification in English during a regular group class, you are bound to find someone who can explain to you what you didn't understand.

Re: Expectant mothers / mothers-to-be in Neuchatel canton

Wanted to follow up in case there is still someone else looking for prenatal classes in English. My husband and I had private lessons at home with a local midwife. She was pretty good; we even got a tour of Pourtales maternity ward and birthing rooms with her ahead of the birth. (It is also good to know that you should get a tour of Pourtales birthing rooms during your 36 week paperwork appointment.)

Here is the midwife's website: http://www.lifeseeds.ch/contact.php?lang=en

Best of luck everyone.
