| what about paying children for their grades? i have a friend who does this but i am not comfortable giving money when he receives a good grade, we've told him as we have jobs to do to pay for everything, his job is to study (actually, we all do studying together with him) and get the best scores he can. so far this works and he knows if there is something special he wants there is always the option to do extra around the house to earn it... | |

I'm all for random treats and things when it comes to teens but I'm not really a fan of monetary agreements for things that should be a given. I guess many teens won't understand it this way, but it's more a case that they should get good grades for the privilege of having someone (i.e. you) provide them with a roof over their head, clothes, food, guidance and love.
It's us kids who owe our parents. I owe my parents my life, so to speak. My home will always be their home and my house will always have a bedroom that is just for them. I could spend my life doing nice things for my mum and dad and it still wouldn't come close to all they have done for me. /mush
But I do understand how parents want to provide incentives and if it works for your family, then go for it. =)
