HPV Vaccine - Gardasil - for males

Hello all,

In the US the HPV vaccine is now available for males up to age 26:

http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/756274_12

I would like to get this vaccine, but it's a series of 3, so it wouldn't be possible for me to correctly time three visits to the US (where I'm from) in this way. So, I am trying to find out if it's possible for me to get it here (I'm in the Zurich area, but I can take the train to wherever).

Does anyone have any information or experience with this? I have checked the internet and called a few places, but so far I have been unable to get any conclusion about if it's possible to get it in Switzerland or not, as a male that is.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Can you buy your three doses in the US and bring them back with you?Does it have to be administered by a physician or registered nurse?
Can you self-administer or have a friend administer it to you (like a diabetic does insulin)?
Or have your doctor here administer them?

What about just asking your Dr as a starting point?

It is available here for children, specifically girls, but can be given to boys but is a cost issue rather than medical one.

You would have to pay for the treatment (i.e. administration) and the vaccine itself. I don't know if you would be liable for any treatment costs if there were complications - I assume not, but you never know. All worth specifically asking.

Re: HPV Vaccine - Gardasil - for males

I don't have a doctor here. I also guessed that I would have to pay it out of pocket, and this is OK for me.

I just now tried to call the Zurich Unispital again, the call got forwarded around to various people until it finally landed on someone who didn't speak any English, so I got an officemate to ask in German - but again I seemed to get the answer that they don't do it, but it was not clear whether or not it is just that that particular place doesn't do it, or that it's not possible/allowed for men.

Re: HPV Vaccine - Gardasil - for males

Gardasil is a GP/paediatrician administered treatment.

The hospital wouldn't be the place to ask. You either need to go to a drop-in health clinic or find a GP (who speakers English) or DIY (rather you than me...).

Don't know of any drop-in clinics in Baden, however there is one at Zurich HB that all Zurichers rave about (you'll have to search EF) and also one in Basel SBB - which will doubless be better, just, well, because.

I am assuming you have made a well-informed decision on taking the HPV vaccine. Recently a movie has been released which may interest you.

Re: HPV Vaccine - Gardasil - for males

I'm interested about the last sound bite: "show us the science and give us the choice".

Under the freedom of information act, let alone various EMA and FDA edicts, you can demand to see all the data for studies.

Why aren't these people who are worried about vaccination doing so?

Don't be stupid, all the data will back up tha vaccinations, so it must have been fabricated.

No, Gardasil is not a treatment, it is a vaccination.

I already called Permanence at HB (I guess this is what you mean), they do not give the vaccination, they gave me the phone number of the University Hospital, which is where I was sent in circles and given the vague - but seemingly negative - response.

Re: HPV Vaccine - Gardasil - for males

Don't know about the males. But all the swiss kantons are offering free HPV vaccines for young women (until end of 2012 also for women under 26. before, it was under 19).

I just got the first one of the three. It was quite painful.

Re: HPV Vaccine - Gardasil - for males

Just keep in mind that the vaccination is ineffective if you have been exposed to the virus already - if you might have - don't forget about screening! I would strongly advocate vaccination for boys too...it is an often overseen fact that high risk HPV strains are responsible for a large part of anal and even colon cancers in gay men...

In case anyone is interested in watching the whole movie (I watched it last year when Mercola had it available for free) I received an article link in my email for free viewing of the film through naturalnews until Feb 21. Here is a link to the article and movie. Enjoy http://www.naturalnews.com/034909_Th...ine_movie.html

Re: HPV Vaccine - Gardasil - for males

Japan has decided to withdraw her support for the HPV vaccine.

http://www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.c...r-hpv-vaccine/

Quote:
On June 14, 2013, Japan’s health ministry raised eyebrows around the world by deciding to formally withdraw its recommendation for HPV vaccination (Gardasil, Cervarix) to protect girls against cervical cancer.

The reason? Hundreds of complaints from Japanese citizens about possible side effects such as long-term pain, numbness and even paralysis.

In an attempt to avoid completely alienating the World Health Organization, which recommends the HPV vaccine used by many developed nations, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare insisted that it is not suspending the use of the vaccine, but simply instructed local Japanese governments not to promote it until more study is conducted on its safety.

Mariko Momoi, vice president of the International University of Health and Welfare, who headed the task force on the matter said:

“The decision (not to recommend the vaccination) does not mean that the vaccine itself is problematic from the viewpoint of safety. By implementing investigations, we want to offer information that can make the people feel more at ease.”

Blah, blah, blah. The best government-speak in the world doesn’t drown out this message which is LOUD and clear. The Japanese health ministry doesn’t trust the HPV vaccines Gardasil or Cervarix.

It is important to note that it is rare for the Japanese health ministry to withdraw a recommendation for a vaccine that is used regularly by local governments and is spelled out as part of revisions to the Preventative Vaccination Law approved in April 2013.

The cervical cancer vaccine is still available to girls for free under subsidies provided by the law although medical institutions must now inform them beforehand that the ministry does not recommend it.

Quote:
Japan Bucks the Vaccination Trend Once Again

This is not the first time Japan has bucked the trend toward more vaccinations.

In 1975, Japan eliminated all vaccines for children under the age of 2. The country’s infant mortality rate subsequently plummeted to the lowest level in the world. Japan changed its infant vaccination schedule again in 1995, but it remains one of the least aggressive in the world with Japan’s infant mortality rate (IMR) remaining low as well (third in 2009). The United States ranks 34th.

Re: HPV Vaccine - Gardasil - for males

That tokyo times link actually says that Japan supports the bivalent vaccine, the concerns are with the quadrivalent one...

I'm quite sure you can get the vaccine from a GP ("Hausartz" in German) - to find a local one, just ask at your nearest pharmacy to 'recommend' one - I did this and they just printed me off the name/address/phone numbers of the nearest 5!

I haven't found a doctor yet that didn't speak functional English, but at the hospital the admin staff don't tend to speak English...
