It could be Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). Very common. I get it on and off. Most doctors say there is no cure, however I once saw a program where a doctor claimed that you can relieve the symptoms by rotaing yourself laying 15 minutes on each side including sideways. After a week of this treatment apparently the symtoms can disapear.
I had this complaint here as well. My usual doctor explained it was caused by my inner ear creating tiny crystals of salt (in the inner ear).

When these touched the balance sensing nerves, the brain sensed a movement of the head, but as this was only in one ear, the brain decided my head was splitting in two and made the body feel ill, to encourage me to keep still.

He showed me some corkscrew head movements designed to move the crystals out of the sensing area of the ear. After three or four days the sensation of dizziness disappeared, and that was 3 years ago.

Maybe you can find these head movements on the Internet?

Go to your local Chiropractor, they deal with this all the time. Also a cleanse sounds like it may be in order.

Cheers

Re: Help - this is freaking me out ( Motion Sickness )

Hi all

Thanks for your comments and suggestions.

I ended up taking a trip to the chemist in the first instance and picked up some Stugeron. Technically a motion sickness drug, that blocks the senses to the brain in order to prevent this confused signal of imbalance.

It didnt seem to help much, other than make me fall asleep.

Symptoms lasted until Friday afternoon, and then went away, 60 hours!!

Thus, I didnt follow up with any doctor appointment.

This may very well work in the shortrun. However, there must be some sort of inbalance, which caused you to feel like that in the first place.

There is certainly an imbalance somewhere with me LIB!

But jokes aside, thanks. I will definitely heed your advice, should it flare up again. I, for now, attribute to the boat trip(s), but if resurfaces and I am on no substance of merit, I will certainly look to establish root cause!

The way I see it, the boat ride was merely the catalyst for the symptom...but it's good that you have an established action plan and take this serious.

And no, "A good clean out" will not work! Inside the inner ear is where the problem is!

The problem is not the inner ear...the inner ear only displays the symtoms of the problem.
