physio / massage needed (pregnancy related)

Hi
I am 20 weeks pregnant and I am having terrible pain with my sciatic nerve. My gyno has given me a prescription to visit a physiotherapist or have a massage. Does anyone recommend any where good in the Basel area that speak English. I have not been in Switzerland long and I am still trying to get to grips with things here.

Thanks

Re: physio / massage needed (pregnancy related)

Heya! I'm also based in Basel, and looked for a place that could give a good massage, but, despite trying several places, didn't have much luck. In the end, I took the train to Zurich to get a massage from Emma Gilbert - http://www.sportsmassage.ch/ and it was TOTALLY worth it. She's British, so there were no communication issues. I know "Sports massage" rings warning bells (if you're pregnant, maybe you're not looking for something quite so rough), but Emma will tailor the massage to your needs. I can't praise her enough, honestly! I was at the finishing stages of my dissertation, and she sorted my back out completely! I think she has an advertisement on here too...

I'm in a similar boat and the pain is so bad I can barely walk right now. Anyone have leads for a massage therapist in Zurich who can do an in-home massage?

Re: physio / massage needed (pregnancy related)

My wife is in the 5th month pregnancy. She has strong pain on upper back. She got a recommendation from the doctor to visit physiotherapy. And with this letter from doctor, insurance company will pay for it. Therefore she’s looking for real physiotherapy clinic in Zurich. (I guess insurance will not pay for massage in normal massage center).

We would really appreciate if someone knows any good clinic to recommend (better in Oerlikon area but other areas are also fine) or has any experience to share with us.

We also wonder if the physiotherapy in clinic would be a massage or more serious? Thanksss

Re: physio / massage needed (pregnancy related)

To reiterate the question, any recent positive (or negative) experiences with pregnancy massage in Zurich?

Concretely I am having hip pain due to ligaments stretching + too much weight gain (not sciatic nerve) and am in my 8th month. Neither chiropractitioner nor osteopath could not help

Not massage, but I’ve just been recommended float therapy as an alternative to massage for muscle pain. Apparently also great during pregnancy. Here is one in Zürich https://float-schweiz.ch/

You may be able to get help from a medical masseur. Fernando Nicolas from "Der Masseur zu Hause" is also specialised in pregnancy massage treatments. He is in Dübendorf. www.dermasseurzuhause.ch

I had similar problem during my first pregnancy and went to https://www.physiozentrum.ch/zuerich-oerlikon/. I went to Uster, as it was closer to where I live but they have centers everywhere, including Oerlikon and Basel (for owner of this thread).

Normally physiotherapy would be 30 min appointment and tailored to your needs. Sometimes it would a massage, other times exercises. Physiotherapist can build a program with excises tailored to your needs.

I have also went to Hirslanden, because of my back, but I was not pregnant. They have a good physiotherapists there as well. https://www.hirslanden.ch/de/klinik-...otherapie.html

But if you prefer a real massage, maybe something more relaxing, I find shiatsu is very good for pregnancy.

Wear an „ISG Gurt“
Saccroiliac belt. Supports your ligaments n joints in pregnancy. Ask for a pregnancy variation.
