Re: ultrasound...

I'm sorry to read this news, but there are a few things you should know that might help you feel a bit better.

Miscarriage before 12 weeks is extremely common in all ages. I have seen my fair share of patients that this has happened to. I believe the statistics are 1 out of 5 pregnancies results in miscarriage.

The reason this normally happens is due to chromosome issues. It's nature's way of shutting things down to prevent a serious problem later.

The good news is you can get pregnant and have a high likelyhood of getting pregnant soon because of hormones already at work.

I know it might seem difficult because there is a lot of excitement about the pregnancy, but try to be positive... And have fun trying again.. ;-)

Finally, please know that there is nothing you or your wife could have done or did do to prevent this.

I hope this brings you peace.

Lord above. I'm talking ultrasound and bloods. Amniocentesis is certainly not done on ultrasound alone and only when indicated after the ultrasound and blood results are in.
Do keep up.
There wasn't a blood test for chromosome defects until about 2 weeks ago. Also, the ultrasound tests that can be done are less than 30% accurate. They only predict a certain probability - nobody's going to get an abortion because of a high probability in a nuchal scan without getting an amniocentesis or other direct chromosome testing.

No shit Sherlock. You've completely missed my point. Nevermind. This isn't really the place for this discussion given the update from the OP.
