Which kind of medicine do you trust the most and why?

Problems

Nothing major, but scary at times

Neck nerv,in much pain last 2 weeks
Hair loss
Weith gain(i feel like im in one of those sumo suits-seriously)
bla bla bla
There are many (speculating) reasons for the above
But it seams that whenever I go to any "modern medicine" doctor,I end up with 5 other problems I havent had before!?!?!?!?
So I m kind of fed up.........

I need a new direction..........something that resonates with me better.

Re: Which kind of medicine do you trust the most and why?

As you seem to have lost confidence in standard "Schule" medicine, is it time to try out some Chinese medicine?

Alcohol and aspirin work for me!

And, of course, a cuppa.

Re: Which kind of medicine do you trust the most and why?

Personally, I use different medicine for different reasons.

I used to be very sceptical of doctors and hospitals, but I've had a very nice experience here, where the specialist took a lot of time to explain and ask questions. Previously on NHS (UK) treatment, I've felt rushed and embarrassed to take more than 5 minutes, and I've left on many occasions with a prescription for types of painkillers, which I bin on my way out of the surgery.

Generally, I don't dismiss any type of healing, but I generally feel, you get better from the treating the root of the cause, not just the symptoms and this generally doesn't come from the hospital. I look at natural remedies first, relaxation and exercise, then if that didn't work, I'd go to a doctor.

I've never been to doctor and come out with more problems than before, but relatives have, now they take tablets for everything. One tablet to treat the primary effects, another tablet to balance out the first tablet and another tablet to treat the effects of that tablet... you spend your life taking tablets.

Re: Which kind of medicine do you trust the most and why?

My mum was a shiatzu/acupuncture/mixed eastern tecniques terapist, and while we were in same country i had a "service" every secon day (spoiled me that woman!)
We (my sis and me) were almost never at the doctors, except in extreme situations for first aid......
For a long time all the litlle things that would affect me- i had sorted by grandma`s litlle tricks, if you know what I mean
But.....
Things were getting overwelming at some point, and I decided to try some modern medicine (thinking that I might be a bit arogant and ignorant)
and, now Im having 10 problems instead of 1 or 2......great!

So - thats enough for me. Tried it,and NO,thank you.

Thank you for your suggestions, as I need something to inspire me because I am tired and low on bealive at the moment (and in pain)

Hair loss can be related to a problem hormonal. Could be a good idea to check your thyroid. It comes with a looooooong list of other symptoms.

Check your thyroid function. A couple of the symptoms that you mention are common in those with thyroid problems.

Are you tired of western medicine or the others?... not quite sure
If it's only western medicine you are tired of, try some TCM make sure it's not just somebody that does acupuncture but also herbs. Good luck!

Re: Which kind of medicine do you trust the most and why?

If you get something serious, then don't neglect Western medicine... a soothing massage isn't much use after a myocardial infarction, or if you've got a fractured collar bone...

Through a nice cup of tea will help.

btw - if you hang around the methadone clinic, you can get some non-prescribed pain killers.

Re: Which kind of medicine do you trust the most and why?

The weight gain and hair loss do sound like a hormonal problem, as other posters have said, possibly (under active) thyroid.

English forum.

Actually, homeopathy seems ideally suited to someone like you. Have you tried it?

Re: Which kind of medicine do you trust the most and why?

After having major health issues I have to take certain medication to keep me going.

However, for certain conditions - stress, not sleeping , hormones etc I always turn to acupuncture, not western style but chinese.
I cannot stress how it has turned me around several times but a lot is to do with who carries it out.

Re: Which kind of medicine do you trust the most and why?

Definitely check the hormones, ask for a complete thyroid panel, including anti-thyroid antibodies. Sometimes Hashimoto's thyroiditis manifests itself this way. Go to an endocrinologist, not just a regular doc, because they often don't know how to treat this properly.

If it's Hashi's, you need to start treatment ASAP, before it becomes full blown.

Re: Which kind of medicine do you trust the most and why?

When it comes to weight gain, I blame:
a)antypsychotic pill (very low dose, yet still - its there)
b)antydepressant
C)hormonal implant

with this 3 treatments i have gained 20kg!!! in last 2 years..... At first it was funny, than it was funny, and now i am just at the WTF point......

my own metabolism is very different, as i have always been at the underweith side (the other extreme that i tried for years to keep under control, mostly succesfuly)

than i started shedding some months ago (not a plesent thing), and 2 days ago i cut my hair much shorter and noticed-hmmm-there is really not much left
I think its due to the hormonal change and the implant is to blame

My neck is an all together different story, i think not so complicated, more of a muscle thing. I am going tomorrow to get a tempur pillow and go for some accupunture and phisiotherapy.....That should sort it out.

Thanx for all the suggestions, I will try one by one.....

by the way, today i got contact info of a woman who does chinesiology (and speaks english)............ my step sister had a great experiance with this kind of terapy. Has anyone here done it?

Re: Which kind of medicine do you trust the most and why?

Lots of interesting stuff on this thread. I'm glad you're all experimenting with something unimportant, like your body and life, rather than anything more serious.

Imagine if you crashed a car and instead of taking it to a mechanic you tried shouting at it, or gently caressing the wheels. That would be crazy.
