Summer Programmes and Activitiesfor Children in Kanton Zug

Can anyone tell me if Kanton Zug offer summer programmes for children - organised by the department of youth and sport or organised by the nearby big town (in conjunction with the Kanton educational department)? For over the forthcoming summer period? Are there any of day activities which you can pick and choose from? I have recently moved to Zug, and would like if my children were able to utilise these oportunities for language learning and meeting friends? Are they expensive and how do I get to join them? Many Thanks in advance.

Re: Summer Programmes and Activitiesfor Children in Kanton Zug

The City of Zug has all day activities for those that attend the lunch and/or after school care. They will send you information 3 weeks before the program starts.

There are also many summer activities (sport/art/crafts) through the ZUG holiday pass program.

A few other places do all day programs too. The horse riding days and soccer camps.

They cost about 280-500 a week. For us it is cheaper to fly nanna over to babysit than do the camps!

Let me if you are interested and i'll send you the links.

Thank you for that. But if it is that expensive , then I guess Im outta the picture as well!!! I wanted my children to get some grounding in the language over the summer, but not at that cost!! Are there some other activities that may be less expensive???

www.zuger-ferienpaass.ch provides access to activities for 3 weeks in july for chf30. All through swiss german i think but the teachers will probably speak hochdeutsch and maybe english to foreign kids if required.

This pass provides entry to the swimming pool, minigolf. museums, games rental and Fröschenmat playground. Bus fare is included for slightly more.

From my understanding of the website, there are no teachers there, the kids just turn up and do their own thing with their friends. Did your kids go last year, and if so, were there organised activities?

We are in Zurich Canton but 10min from Zug. Can we take advantage of this? Or are we confined in our canton? Not sure how it works yet. I have 2 x 5years old and I would love them to join summer activities in SwissGerman.

Many thanks and very interesting information!!

Re: Summer Programmes and Activitiesfor Children in Kanton Zug

sorry about the link, if you google zuger ferienpass the site is active. it says the programme of activites will be available from 12 th June, also that you must be resident in Kanton Zug or in Mierskappell. We were away last Summer so my kids didn't go but they wil this year, I am pretty sure there are actual activities such as tennis, scouts etc. but all will be revealed on the 12th! The level of supervision involved could well be less than you might expect , coming from a UK/US background.

How old are the kids? Jubla sleepaway camps for grades 3+ are a great deal (less than 300CHF for the 2 week camp) and are offered by almost every village.

My children have enjoyed these summer activities in the past:

Horse riding days in Baar:

Wednesday afternoon drop off outdoor workshops by the Zug lake 14-17.00. You don't have to live in Zug.

This place seems lovely. However I can only find activities in Baar (Blinkmatt). Could you please send me a direct link to the activities by the lake in Zug?

Many thanks.

Rugby Club Zug are involved in the Zuger Ferienpass.

I am looking forward to doing this again.

Re: Summer Programmes and Activitiesfor Children in Kanton Zug

We are looking for summer activities in Zug for 9th-20th August for a 6 year old. Any ideas?

...otherwise it looks like we'll be doing the half-day play dates again to get some work done...

Scouts are called Pfadi in German. Check with your Gemeinde, most Gemeinde offer Scout groups. They have summer camps but it might be too late to join now and go to the camp. More information about Pfadi in Switzerland can be found here http://www5.scout.ch/en?set_language=en

Also check the churches themselves and the other youth organisations like Blauring / Jungwacht (run by the catholic church) and CEVI (run by the protestant church).

Hope that helps. If you need more info on scouts PM me.
