Marriage Help - Foreign Resident

I am an Indian and have been living in Zürich for a couple of months now. My boyfriend (from India) is visiting me in July and we want to get married here while he is visiting. I have done a prelim check online about the documents the civil registration requires us to take.

I would appreciate if any other expats could give me pointers on this. Also, i would love tips on a super simple secular form of wedding. Neither of us have friends here so i doubt any attendance :P. Just the two of us, wedding vows preferably in a church, forest, mountain. Anybody who would know anyone who could conduct the ceremony?

I don't speak German. Any help in any form would be super great!

Re: Marriage Help - Foreign Resident

What kind of permit do you have?
Are you allowed to get married and be solemnised here?
Sorry, your post generated more questions than answers (from me).

Congratulations, any reason why you want to get married here, without any friends or witnesses, just mountains and church?

Re: Marriage Help - Foreign Resident

Ah yes! I have a B permit. On preliminary inquiry, they just asked me to get a couple of documents. I was surprised it was this easy, though! Maybe when I go with the documents, things might start to get a little difficult.

Two reasons for getting married here. I begin my research trip in a bit. So, going to be a nomad for quite long. And, the consultant boyfriend gets 2 weeks of holiday an year!

Even if this legal matter gets too difficult, we still want to have a just the two of us private thing somewhere.

Re: Marriage Help - Foreign Resident

Just to be clear. Marriage in CH is a legal matter. This means you need to be married in a "town hall" (whatever arrangement they have in the commune where you live). Then if you want to marry in a church or other, you can but it has to be after the legal marriage.

Not sure how it would work in your case but normally, they have to post notice that you want to get married on the town posting board about 3 weeks ahead of the marriage date. You will also need to see when their are dates available for a marriage (Fridays are the worst as often people want to do the church wedding on the Saturday).

Good luck with the arrangements.
