child surgery -days off

Hi
Small question that I couldn't find an answer in the EF,
My daughter has been in surgery (actually 2…) and needless to say I had to take few days off work, back in my home country parents could take days off once there children where sick or hopsitiliazed and report it as their sickness and therefore receive the full salary for these days, any one knows how does it work here?
most important - she is on the right track for recovery -will take time but we are getting there,
Thanks and good health to all

I think the easiest and most accurate thing to do is to talk to your employer.

Hi,

first of all, I wish your daugther to get better soon.
Secondly you are entitled to days off (depending on the contract). Ask the doctor to write a note to your employer (my daughter's pediatrician has pre filled forms) and bring it to him/her.

Reproting your childs sickness as your own won't work as your employer may want a medical certificate. Much better to be honest than risk being sacked for fraud.

Re: child surgery -days off

3 days per instance. You need doctors certificate from day one.

Up to three days with a medicial certificate from day one:

http://www.admin.ch/ch/d/sr/822_11/a36.html

And afterwards as many days as necessary within the limit of your own sick pay since taking care of a child is a legal obligation:

Legally speaking. Being absent too often due to a taking care of a child might lead to problems with your employer.

Thanks all, i fine with the employer and i will for sure speak to him.
Since it is a very small company and i am not sure if he knows the rule i wanted to come with some knowledge.
I am not to worried about the worker relations because we are in good relations and this case is serious enough that nobody will think I am enjoying my time off work, trust me I would rather work in the office than to have this experience,
Thanks again

Talk to your employer - if he's a human being with empathy & sympathy he will give you some days off...if he's saying "es ist nicht mein Problem", go to a doctor get a certificate, and then quit your job!
