Ecole Moser, Nyon - anyone any experience?

Hi there,

We are considering moving our daughter from the local public school to Ecole Moser in Nyon - has anyone got any experiences of Ecole Moser they could share? Obviously it is a significant investment (circa 20k per annum v free), and wondering if anyone who has made a similar move with one of their children could comment. Our reasons for doing it are not in anyway a reflection on the local system, we are leaving our other children in the local school, its more of a round peg / square hole scenario...

Thanks.....

About half of the kids in our village go there, ie. the ones that reach 7eme and don´t make the cut to VSB, many parents opt for them to go to Moser to get the maturity than continue the trades route.

What to say-- the school does fill a role, often one of just capacity when only about 10% get VSB. I´ve heard a bit of mixed comments about the school-- that it does help some kids with motivation issues and ones in which the local schools just aren´t working for one reason or another. On the other hand I know quite a few who have left for reasons that it wasn´t challenging enough, not sure if this was due to the level of the peer students or the teaching instruction itself, or likely a bit of both. As it is located in downtown Nyon, the facilities are possibly less than what you get at other schools, they eat a Migros for example, but as it is a school that caters to those after the streaming, most are own their own anyhow.

That must be in the immediate surroundings of Nyon, isn't it? I was told 99% of kids going to Moser live in Nyon because of lacking school transports... not true anylonger?

Yes, greater Nyon area from my understanding. Surely not 99% from Nyon city, ´maybe the district of Nyon, which includes many of the surrounding villages and those up the Jura directions as well. Several students from St-Cergue as example. Most at that age can take public transport, but there is a steady stream of parents cars in front of the school at start/finish times everyday.

Two things I've heard about Ecole Moser that you might want to check on. I do not know how accurate these comments are:
  • Classes are larger than in the local gymnase.
  • The pass rate for the Swiss maturité last year was not very high.
I personally would want to see data from the school on the percent of students who have passed the federal maturité exams for each of the past 3 or 4 years.
