Re: How do you compare size-wise?

When I was a child, very fat and very thin people were very rare. Most of us were 'average/normal' (Whatever that is ..) and few of us ever thought about weight.

Now we seem to be heading for 2 standard weights: the obese and the extremely skinny. Something is very wrong - food has become something else than 'food'
It seems to me more that food intake problems have become a marketable thing and out of the common sense proportion, both ways, food restrictions (treatments, diets, personal coaches, supplements, etc..) and pamper yourself to another sausage/ice cream thing.. I still think one eats to live, it's fun but there is so much more to do.

Personal couch or coach - perhaps both together would help with my weight

I now know why I always seem to fit in so well when I visit the U.S. Seems my BMI most closely matches their average

Excuse me. Off to the gym.
The gym is unlikely to reduce your BMI by a large amount. What it is likely to do is reduce your fat percentage and make you much healthier. BMI is a valid measure only for someone who does very little exercise imo.

The stats don't matter at all, that's my point.. So why then speculate about nation's average BMI? And ad by how much Earth weight changes, ridiculous. The whole thing seems pointless, we could be comparing not so popular hair length, feet, etc. Tabloid. And using skinny countries to move fat countries conscience, but that's just my opinion.
The original research had a serious side to it.
The idea was to calculate how the increasing mass of individuals affects the energy requirement of the global population.

This was the conclusion they came to..

'
Increasing population fatness could have the same implications for world food energy demands as an extra half a billion people living on the earth.'

I get that and I knew it was meant to influence..I just have a weird aftertaste when reading that I level up with Ethiopia (nothing wrong with that, we have sent ton to Habesh ŕ l'epoche) when my relatively easy life is nowhere near their serious worries.

Not sure but the way they try to push on the fat side of the scope, my lack of weight should contribute positively, logically. Which is absurd. I just find the use of simplified stats in order to influence people's gluttony a bit underestimating their intelligence..

Anyways, me is back to cookin dinner, cramming some different social stats and ironing. We are spoilled, no matter what our BMI is.

Is that NECESSARILY a good thing? The important thing is to be healthy - and being under-weight can cause almost as many health problem as being over. For instance I have a friend who is very underweight due to a very poor diet and smoking 30 a day - she is not in good health, sadly.

You're right of course. But I have serious self-confidence troubles at the moment as I can't seem to shed my pregnancy weight (am not even sure I lost all of the previous one to be honest) so the test did me good

Re: How do you compare size-wise?

I am so sorry Mélu - problem is, when we normal people lose weight, we don't necessarily lose it exactly where we want it to go- and at times, the loss can actually exacerbate areas we are not particularly happy with- then want to lose more weight - and it can be a very un-healthy spiral for some.

Could you get some advice to target specific areas with exercise rather than just diet, so that you can remain at a healthy weight (says she who is obese- with a thyroid deficiency and Type II diabetes. Fortunately though at an age where I don't particularly care much for my weight, but care passionately about improving my health so I can see my grand-children grow).xx

That's what you have people for, you look fab.
It's normal for chicks to go through self confidence troubles post partum, even years after delivery. You have made two amazing children. Who cares for those few extra kilos, seriously, you will shed them in no time when things start spinning a bit faster for you and your family

We can do some sports, too, let me know, I am on summer break, cram like nuts but need to move to have my head absorbing well.

Hi Mélu... have you tried just starting out with a nice walk every day? I am not offering advice as I am much better at giving than receiving. I have hiked every day since Friday and will ride my bike tomorrow, but I still look like a weeble

I think part of my problem is that I'm still nursing. My body seems to store some extra fat in case I need it. When I weaned my son I lost almost 10 kg in 3 months without doing anything special.

My dream is to go to the fitness (I live close to a Let's go Fitness), but when I have time to go I have little one with me

Depends what you do in the gym Adrian. If you do lots of cardio and little weights it should reduce your weight considerably. But you're right of course that when you muscle up you may get a bit slimmer around the waist but not much lighter.

Oh and I laughed at the Weebles commercial, very funny!

It's irritating seeing a youtube clip entitled "Vintage..." and remembering actually seeing the ad on TV when a child.

dogs are good for this as they force you to get out... i am certainly not a dietitian, nor do I play one on billag free TV, but maybe you can start writing down what and when you eat, and after a week start to see if there are any patterns that are causing you to stay where you are. You don't need to tell anyone, but you would need to be completely honest with yourself to see a true picture
