Do swiss local secondary schools provide school lunch?

Hi all,
Does anyone here know about the daily school bell schedule for swiss local school (like secondary schools) in Basel area? I read somewhere on this forum that usually the school has long lunch break. So my question is whether the students have to go back home for lunch, and what parents do about this if both parents working?
Appreciate any information about this!

Here's a list of the schools with a "Mittagstisch". http://www.ed-bs.ch/bildung/volkssch...sche-standorte

Most schools expect students to go home to Mum for lunch

Some children attend a lunch break room where they are fed a cooked lunch by the school - you pay for this, normally monthly, and you normally have to register your child in advance and commit for one school semester.
These Mittagstisch rooms vary by school, not all have them.

Some families have arrangements with other families where their children go to the other families house for lunch. If you do this, it's normal to pay the other family a nominal amount to cover the food costs and supervision.

You local school schedule is normally available on your local school website.
School start and stop times, and lunch break times, vary by school, school year, class, and day of the week.
It is quite possible to have 3 x children at school, all starting and finishing at different times every day, and all coming home for lunch at different times.

Sounds confusing? It is, but it teaches the kids how to keep to a schedule

Some do some don't, check with your local school to see if something is on offer or not.

Swiss schools expect mom to be home all the time, so lunch is not a problem. If by chance both parents work, they need to make arrangements such a childminder, nanny, etc.. although if an older child in secondary, they are often expected to fend for themselves. A lot of teens just hang out around town at the McDonalds, etc.

Generally, the parents also go home for lunch (at least around here).

And canton, here they are all the same (within 5 or 10 minutes).

Of course not - that would make it way to easy for women to go out to work

Perhaps a bit more healthy than secondary school canteen lunches in the UK

I used to go home for lunch with my brother and we got cooked our own healthy lunch- as mum commuted to the nearest town.

Information for Baselland (also in the Basel area).

List of secondary schools in Baselland that offer mittagstisch. Seems to cover most of the bigger communities.
