The problem is that it isn't a question of "fit or fat" - who says the VS models are any more fit than the Dove ones? The problem is that fitness doesn't look the same on everyone.

Just watch the Olympics - everyone is at the peak of fitness for their chosen sport, but they're definitely not all model thin!

So, the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty has to do with showing that people are beautiful in general, you don't have to be super skinny, you don't have to be white, you don't have to have perfect (non-freckled) skin, etc etc... it's not only about their bodies, but their whole look.

Meanwhile, VS models are chosen for being able to fit into one-Ccup-fits-all modeling gear AND look good in a photo shoot. That's it.

Also, it isn't so well known I think BUT the same company that makes undergarments for VS also makes some of what is carried by Lane Bryant (plus size women's wear in the US). So, even though their public image is all about skinny with big knockers, behind the scenes they like making money off us fat gals all the same. Kinda reminds me of that joke about fat girls being like mopeds - okay to ride as long as your friends don't see... VS will happily take our money, they just don't advertise that fact.

Re: Beauty campaign: your choice

Also like to note that beauty can also be defined by how you carry and present yourself. You can read quite a bit about someone's personality by their facial expressions and body language.

As mentioned before, this two sided comparison is a bit loaded. Based solely on body appearance, I would definitely side with the Victoria secrets. However based on how they were instructed to pose, it would lean towards the Doves for me. Smiley, fun looking happy people are much more beautiful than the stern, almost frowning "I'm a diva and proud" look.

If I was to choose one set to walk up to at a bar (or other social gathering location) and talk, it would be the doves. When I see women with the facial expressions and body language of Victoria Secrets pose, my mind goes straight to dumb, empty bimbos. The Doves look like they'd be fun to talk to and hang out with---again just from how they were instructed to pose. Just my 2 cents.

Interesting results for now! As much as people scream how more healthy one is compared to the other one, the anonymous poll says something else...
Exactly! Just like in the 'Is Adele fat?' thread. In other words, people are happy to express their preferences anonymously but are a little more reluctant to do so publicly!

Think the word beautiful is bandied about too much. Beauty is something undefineable, comes from within and manifests itself in the eyes!

Yes, and beauty can shine out just in the general aura of someone. I was talking to a male friend about this just the other day. It was fascinating actually as we discussed the relative attractiveness of women (and men) in general and amongst those that we both know. Without exception, all those women I mentioned who I consider classically pretty or beautiful, and assumed he would be attracted to, he did not find attractive. And a number who he was attracted to would not normally be described as classically beautiful or pretty.

I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it is a highly subjective matter, but I found his responses very interesting. Similarly, several of the men that he assumed I would find attractive, I just don't.

Re: Beauty campaign: your choice

Regardless of what people may vote on this rubbish poll. I think we need to stop labeling humans as ugly or pretty but rather focus on the character of an individual. Frankly, I find women from both commercials beautiful and won't limit myself to simple physiological differences to establish attraction.

Here are two pictures; one from Dove and the other one from Victoria Secret.

Since we talk a lot about beauty, weight and physical apparence, I thought it could be great to have a poll based on great pictures of beautiful women.

What do you prefer?
