Bed Bugs in my hotel!!!

Hi guys,

So, I have been welcomed at the first night in Switzerland with Bed Bugs in my hotel room!!!

I was planning to stay in this hotel until I move to my new apartment in Lugano to start my degree program in USI.

I'm so scared to have these little bugs move with me to my new apartment!!

So far, I only stayed one night at that room and after I have bitten and started to feel itchy I have asked to move to a new room and I did after a long argue with them.

Now, pleaseeee tell what should I do? Is there a way to sue the hotel?

Am I in a serious problem?

At the supermarket buy a large 110 liter plastic bag and a can of good insect spray, Bauer is good. Now place your bag and clothes inside the bag, give a good spray and tie the end tight. Repeat. Spray around the bed, on the carpets and the walls. Lift the sheets, spray the mattress.

Putting clothes in a tumble drier for 10 mins is supposed to get rid of bugs too...

Could the OP also get into the drier and operate it with an iPhone app from within ....?

Are you sure it was bedbugs? Mosquitoes are pretty insistent at the moment. Or it might be an allergy?

Could of been flea's if the Hotel allows Dogs. Bed bug bites you don't notice so fast. (from what I have heard) just see the little bites.

Re: Bed Bugs in my hotel!!!

I really feel for you. Bed bugs are everywhere. I was in a 5 star corporate flat during this one contract I did years ago and it was infested with bed bugs. Took a few days before I reacted to the bites and saw the little beasties gliding across my sheets. Urgh. Fortunately, the company immediately moved me to a new flat and I had all my stuff laundered.

Yes, be scared the bugs will move with you to a new apartment. You need to blast them with heat in a dryer as they're unfortunately quite resistant to the standard insect treatments.

One question though - did you actually see the bugs? If you've got a lot of itchy, inflamed bites quite close together (especially with an "s" shape), it could be you've picked up scabies in the hotel room. Get checked by a dermatologist if you can. Good luck and let us know how things go.

Re: Bed Bugs in my hotel!!!

My post was deleted because I did not agree with the B.S...LOL That website from Geneva is unprofessional as I stated in my previous post that was wrongfully deleted. What does Geneva need with this company? I think this American company may have brought bed bugs over with them. Then again Geneva does, well never mind...LOL Switzerland is much farther ahead of US technological wise and in other ways. And I do not take pity on people who come over to a country and the first thing they want to do is "sue" because of a perceived incident which they could possibly be the cause of themselves. The jury is still out. Sorry...but this does not gel with me.

P.S. The wikipedia info is from the stone ages, 19th century UK and France? It has nothing to do with the bed bug scourge today, which rest mostly in the USA. Which is where the OP came from.

You are absolutely right. The US company brought bed bugs over..of course, because they're in the bug business anyways. And of course, since OP used to study in the US, it is clear, that he/she must have brought them over...regardless whether he/she was there years ago or just recently. Can we please get back on topic and try to help out the OP? Thanks!

Helping out does not always mean "beating around the bush." I stand by what I wrote.

Re: Bed Bugs in my hotel!!!

Divide your clothes into :
trash (close it very well with a big sign saying bed bugs)
put your favourite ones, bagpacks, everything else you have(belts, books, etc) into bagds, close it very weel and leave them for 2 weeks in the freezer.

anything not important for you goes to the trash (don't forget to close it very
well and put a sign).

You can call the trash pick-up service of teh twon you are living in and tell them you have stuff contaminated with bed bugs that you need to put in the trash but your affraid someone might pick it up and use them. They might be able to arrange a date with you to pick up your stuff.
