new blog dealing with moving to switzerland issues

Hi there

I just created a blog and my first entry is the Local vs. International school debate. Basically, I tried to synthesize everyone's arguments on one page. If I missed any points, can you let me know? http://swisstuff.blogspot.ch/

best, aggie

It would have saved me reading, if you had been clear in your heading it was to do with International School, ie nothing to do with person/ people without children

Hi Hankag,

I think you did a great job of summarizing the issues I've read in many threads on EF about this topic. One factor to consider that you do need to add is the child's age. Once they are getting close to the age when streaming decisions are made, everything gets much trickier. If they arrive after that point, options are even more limited.

You also said that the international schools are unlikely to have room to admit students in high school, and in my experience in the Geneva/Lausanne region, that varies among international schools. There is still a lot of student turnover at the high school level, so openings occur every year, though possibly there are a greater number of international school options in this area.

Re: new blog dealing with moving to switzerland issues

Thanks a lot -- I updated the blog. I hesitated to discuss age because so much depends on the child's motivation, talent for languages, and family support, not to mention family finances. But I think you're right and I included a paragraph. If you have any ideas on further posts, I would be happy to hear.
best, aggie

I think that the LOOK HERE FIRST for Childcare/Schooling / Family Info / Help Sites sticky should have a link to this excellent page, which summarizes several dozen EF threads on the topic.

I think you will get a lot more feedback on your latest post in another part of EF. Maybe the Finance/Banking/Taxation forum?

That sticky is locked, so only a moderator can add to it.

As an input to enhance your financial entry, you analyze some of the key sectors of swiss economy but it seems a bit like mixing very important sectors with not so impacting segments. you might wish to ponderate the impact of your insights for the future according to the relative importance of each economy segment, e.g. developing on the pharma industry, also electronics, banking is fine (11% of total GDP). See e.g. in this link distribution 70% services, 20 something industry rest primary:
