Athlete's Foot - medicated ointment? Over the counter?

Hi

My spouse has a bad case of Athlete's Foot.

He needs an anti-fungal cream or ointment but we have no idea what ointments in Switzerland are available for fungal infections or if they are even available over the counter. He really doesn't want to see a doctor about it just to get a prescription.

Does anyone know the names of any products which will treat it? (If not I guess I'll have to ask family overseas to mail something across).

Thanks for any suggestions!

Canesten can be bought over the counter without a prescription.

Walk into your local pharmacy and show them the foot. They'll give you something to fix it. Easy. Quick. Simple.

And if you showed them something more serious, eg, a broken arm, they'd tell you to see a doctor. They're good like that.

They sell that in pharmacies here without a prescription. It is very effective. In my experience.

It really does work and you don't have the hassle of having re-apply it every couple of hours, just lash it on and put socks on before you go to bed and your good as gold the next morning! If it's a really bad infection you can do it again the next night! Best to do it when your not walking around in sweaty shoes etc...

Easy, get a pot of potassium permanganate from a pharmacy - few chf BTW!

Make a solution that's dark pink but not quite purple and put feet in for about 5 mins.

Job done.

If you make it too strong your nails change colour but it rubs off in a few days, unless he prefers painted nails.

Lamisil is very effective.

The main thing with any athletes foot treatment is to complete the course of treatment, otherwise it can return with a vengeance, as I saw often in my patients.
