Re: Is contraception a taboo in Switzerland?

The side-effects of the morning-after pill are rather unpleasant and can last several days. It's a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

Chances are that if you use it once, then the thought of taking it again will make your wife insist on shutting the door before the horse has bolted in future

True. The Brits would say: "Just have oral sex."

Drop a slice of lemon, one small/large onion and some chives in the bat cave before sex. It acts as a natural spermicide. Give it a shot.

We have 2 kids and now we don't want any more. Its not that complicated.

We take all necessary precautions, but to anticipate for accidents (knowing that other ways are not always 100% sure) we inquired with my wife's gyn about the morning-after pill. He made it sound like it was the worst thing in the universe.

When we went and asked for it in the pharmacy, we were surprised that it is not over-the-counter. The pharmacist called my wife's gyn and asked a few questions. Then asked my wife to fill up a form and told her that the pharmacy will be keeping track of this. In short, making my wife feel like an idiot.

I've heard from many sources that abortion is a big no-no in Switzerland.
Is contraception a taboo as well?
Go to another pharmacist. I had to ask for it once. The pharmacist asked me a couple of questions, mainly if i had taken it before and how long ago and that was it. No side effects either. Apparently, depending on how long ago you took the last one (if at all), they have different types to give you.

Re: Is contraception a taboo in Switzerland?

Probably you wanted to say that she would like to go on the Pill as she can't take the ''after'' pill for the rest of her life. It is not healthy. Taking the Pill shouldn't be taboo here. I have a friend who had the ''snipety snip'' (HA it sounds funny) and now he is OK. He said he is happy that he has 2 kids and he doesn't any so he went to the ''snip snip ''Dr. Plus I think that know it is reversible ?? So if you change your mind in few years and you want to have more kids then it is possible. I didn't get into details with him but he said he is fine.

If you and your wife are not interested in having more kids, take the necessary PREcautions. That means before, not the morning after.

If you really are looking to purchase the after morning pill, your best bet without prescription and for about 12euros (was that price when I bought it in 2009) would be to go to France.

Don't forget that unlike the pill, coil, morning after pill, snip etc condoms also protects against STI's. Just because one is marrried it is important to not become complacent.

Also you need to keep a track of how many morning after pills you have taken because after the third one or so they are no longer effective.

Simply not true.

Repeated use could lead to other problems with the menstrual cycle, but taking a mega-dose of hormones has the same effect on implantation whether you've had it before or not.

Good to know, thanks. I was obviously misinformed in school. I am sure this information will come in very useful.

There's a phrase for people who use that. Let me think. What is it?

Oh yes - I remember: "Parents for the nth time".

The general advice is that if you're having the snip, you approach it as though it is permanent. There is a possibility of reversal, but it certainly isn't guaranteed.

Go for a TURP op. That way you get the sterility and no more mess.

So you are saying that the OP should get tested for STI and /or ask his wife to get tested?

It's a ****ed up world when trusting your spouse is considered to be a sign of 'complacency'.

Retrograde ejaculation is a side-effect of 85% of such procedures.

Re: Is contraception a taboo in Switzerland?

In Canada the morning after pill, or Plan B as it's called here, is over the counter.

I don't know anyone who has ever had a problem in Switzerland gaining access to it. Just speak with your GP. He might be more lenient than your GYN.
