I believe Hirslanden is a private clinic group, so if you only have basic insurance you may face additional out-of-pocket costs. Something to keep in mind should you choose this hospital group. | | | | | They'd be paying it all themselves anyway since there is no medical reason to do so and often normal state/university owned hospitals don't do such procedures.

Edit - And how damn hard is it really to find info on this without asking a bunch of strangers for help? Have you not heard of a pediatrician? Or GP? Did you just expect to waltz in here with what you fully know is a very controversial question and expect a hearty rendition of "god bless america" and a few phone numbers?

Sadly this turned into a debate, with users including yourself demonstrating a total lack of tolerance and respect for the beliefs of others.

I agree with PD, this is a delicate subject one wouldn't ask for advice on forums, and as their first posts or something at that.
Smells troll(ish) to me, particularly if they read related threads they would have known how people react here and that in fact no-one will come up with much info.

I know the post was merged with an already existing thread but both the post in question and this thread in general asked for info only and not a debate about the pros and cons of circumcision. It’s already been done to death on here already and IIRC many heated discussions on the topic were moderated and posts deleted in the past.
I don’t agree with circumcision unless medically necessary myself but that is beside the point. The poster wasn’t asking for my opinion.
Unfortunately the paediatric urologist we saw in Neuchâtel a few years ago has retired (and I don’t even know if he did neonatal circumcision) so I can’t recommend anyone. It wasn’t deemed medically necessary for our son and the problem was resolved by other means which came as a relief as he was 12 at the time.

I've moved all the arguments to a thread where they belong https://www.englishforum.ch/general-...ght-wrong.html
Please, however strongly you feel, let's keep this thread clear for the info requested.

| | Re: Circumcision in Switzerland [info ONLY please] | Quote: | | | | | Speak to your obstetrician or the hospital where you plan to have your baby. They will know which doctors still do the procedure. When my kids were born in Australia, there was just one doctor that the local hospital could refer to. And no, my kids are not circumcised... very hard to meet this request without a lot of opinion.
Do be aware that if you circumcise your kids, in Switzerland they will be in the small minority...the historical and current circumcision rate is less than 20% in Switzerland. | | | | |
I am quoting again from the thread. Really, your paediatrician will advise.
I see zero reason in asking again on the forum.
And to refute the previous comment about new circumcision rates - Australia is below 20%. Switzerland is well below 20%. I did a quick google search but could not find any up to date statistics for USA. Most articles were at least 10 years old. In Australia, routine circumcision for non-religious reasons went out of fashion in the late 1970's.

Pediatric urologists do circumcision for medical reasons, but my impression is that they will talk you out of it here if you do inquire. Also, keep in mind that you don't want someone who rarely does circumcisions to operate on your son. This was the case when a boy was recently mutilated in Geneva. I would go so far to suggest finding a doctor in France with more experience if you're set on this.
