Re: Looking for English speaking family doctor - Schwerzenbach

Hi,

Did you find one in the end? My husband and I are moving to Schwerzenbach as of 1st Dec 13 and Im interested to find some other people in the community who are English speaking. We have a 3 month old son and I will also need to get on a waiting list for childcare - can you recommend any nurseries? For the first year I plan to stay home with him but after that I would like to get him into nursery a couple of days a week at least for the social interaction.

Do you have any tips? Do you live there yourselves?

Hope to hear from you...

Re: Looking for English speaking family doctor - Schwerzenbach

Hi there,

Welcome (soon) to Scwerzenbach, yes we live here and is a lovely place to raise your child, we are very happy here. I have found 2 doctors surgeries in the village but luckily have not have had to use one yet! As for nursery ( or krippe) as is known here, check out www.tibbs.ch this a fantastic nursery here in the village where my son goes. The staff are lovely, speak English if required, but Swiss German usually to the children. The children learn to pick it up really quickly. We are very lucky to have such a great nursery here, where the children are very happy and have fun packed days.

Are you from England too? Is this your first time in CH? You are welcome to message me further if you would like any other info.

Hope you have a good move!
Monique

Re: Looking for English speaking family doctor - Schwerzenbach

Hi,

Apologies for the late reply, its been a hectic week!

We are moving from England at the end of November to Schwerzenbach. We used to live in Zurich from 2008-2011 but came back to the UK on secondment, now my husband has a job back in Zurich so we have been looking at places to live just outside the city where you can get more space for your money and yet still be close enough by train to get into the city easily. I have a friend that lives in Schwerzenbach so I knew it was going to be quite convenient, however she doesn't know the village well enough to know about schools/nurseries/shopping/facilities etc.. so would be nice to get some knowledge from someone else who lives there.

I'm English, my husband is Spanish and we have a 3 month old son so I will be at home with him for the first few months at least. Would be nice to get to know some other English speakers

How long have you lived there?

Re: Looking for English speaking family doctor - Schwerzenbach

Hi again,

We have been here since January, my partner also works in the city and is great that it only takes 9 mins on the train to Oerlikon! What is nice about living here is the city is accessible but so is our lake which everyone walks, cycles, rollerblade round ( sometime rollerblading pushing buggies)! I frequently cycle to Uster along the lake path, also Dubendorf for German lessons and the Chinese take away, and Fallandan where most of my friends live. We have just got a car this month which is going to open up so many more options. Schwerzenbach itself has a few convenience shops, bakery, pizzeria, doctors and 10min walk to Volkiland which has a large Coop and Kindercity next door which is an indoor kids adventure ( but probably for over ones). There are some English speaking mums living in Im Vieri ( is that where you will be living)? I met my friends through kids groups, nursery and some we had here already. It is a really nice place to live in summer and snow!

Hope your move goes well! Your welcome to contact me when you get here.

Re: Looking for English speaking family doctor - Schwerzenbach

Hi,

Sorry that its been so long since we spoke last. I hope you and your family had a nice Christmas and I wish you a very happy new year! Did you stay here for Christmas? We went to Valencia (where my husband is from for Christmas) and then the UK to see my family for New Year. It was really nice, but lots of travelling hence I haven't had a chance to settle in to life here in Schwerzenbach yet.

The move went well and the first couple of weeks were sorting out the apartment and the usual admin - permits, drivers licence etc.. We bought a car this time. Last time we lived in Zurich so we only ever needed to use trains, trams etc.. but as we are a bit further out we thought a car would be handy.

I have a friend that lives in Im Vieri but our apartment is Riedwiesen 6, only a few minutes walk further down the railway line towards Uster (a bit nearer the lake).

So far we have been really happy here. I think we made the right choice :-) I love the walks, the local convenience shops are good - Migrolino especially as its open on Sundays! hehe and its so easy to get into the city.

I am still keen to meet up with other Mums and to make new friends. My son Oliver is 7 months now. I took your advice and contacted Tibbs Kitta and Barbara was really helpful so we have Oliver on the waiting list for mid 2014. I also saw there is a group on Thursday mornings at the Familie Zentrum which Ive enquired about.

Let me know if you/any other of your friends would like to meet for a coffee at the bakery or anywhere else you can suggest.. providing you want to that is ;-)

Take care,
Rachael

Re: Looking for English speaking family doctor - Schwerzenbach

Hi ladies! I am an American moving to Schwerzenbach in a couple weeks (currently in temporary housing in Uster). I'd love to meet up sometime. No children, but I do have a small, yippy dog.
