Are you vaccinated against measles?

The vaccination is free, and as experts are warning of an epidemic soon, it would seem a good idea to check if you all had your jab. Measles is very contagious!

The disease can be quite mild, or it can cause terrible damage to eyes, ears and brain,

In Britain there has been a serious outbreak in Wales. A major problem is that after wrong information on the Internet, many parents stopped MMR vaccination,

Re: Are you vaccinated against measles?

I did a safety additional vaccine a few years ago when there was a major outbreak of measles at UNIL/EPFL, where I work, as I wasn't sure I was up to date.

My kids are vaccinated too. A teenager died of measles in Geneva during the last outbreak.

The internet to an extent, but this scare was rather heavily promoted by irresponsible journalism.

Re: Are you vaccinated against measles?

Yep, had the measles vaccine as a baby, which was lucky as my brother got measles as a kid. I also had the MMR when we moved here because I'd lost my innoculations card. My daughter has had 3 MMR jabs, the two normal and one at 7mos because of an outbreak where we lived.
Having seen my brother first hand I would put anyone through that.

Re: Are you vaccinated against measles?

My very first memory is at the age of 20 months lying in a darken room, my inflamed eyes being examined by our local GP; and I still suffer today from the damage caused by this 'benign' childhood illness.

Another 'side-effect' was that I had to kept separated from my mother (who was pregnant at the time with my little brother) and didn't see her again for nearly a year due to health complications on both sides.

If you or your family haven't been inoculated, get it done asap!

I tripped over holding a milk bottle in my hand when I was four, a piece of glass lodged in my wrist, but I didn't die or lose any feeling or motility in my hand so all children should be allowed to insert glass shards into their wrists.

No I mean small pox. In 1958 there was one of the last outbreaks in Europe. I got it from my German cousins (what else) .
But the good thing. I haven't caught anything afterwards not even a flu or other bugs.

I am not surprised.

Your immune system has had a chance to build a whole repertoire of antibodies and other molecules/cells to fight the future invasion of viruses and bacteria. And coupled with the high standard of living here in Switzerland, you are as fit as an ox!

Actually, a high standard of living doesn't necessarily equate with having a robust and comprehensive immune system. Quite the opposite.
