Getting Married in the UK, UK tax exempt?

I live and work in Switzerland and am getting married in the UK in 2 years.
Does anyone know if I have to pay UK tax or if I am exempt and can claim it all back?

What sort of Tax are you talking about? If you're buying something there and importing it back to CH then in theory you can reclaim the VAT, even if it's not always easy to do so. But goods and services within the UK cannot be reclaimed against, no.

Re: Getting Married in the UK, UK tax exempt?

I am so sorry, but I just do not understand your question.

If you are resident here, work here and pay tax here - then no, you don't pay tax in UK under the no double taxation agreement. What has your marriage in uk in two year got to do with it? Will you just get married in uk, or return permanently in uk to get married? Your question is far too vague and ambiguous for anybody to help, I think.

If you live and work in Switzerland you pay tax in Switzerland

Going to the UK as a tourist to get married there does not make you liable to pay income tax in the UK

You say you want to claim tax back: you don't say what tax.
Do you mean withholding tax on savings accounts interest? if so, you claim it on your Swiss tax return
If you mean income tax? Well, there should be none, as you live and work in Switzerland, not the UK.

Re: Getting Married in the UK, UK tax exempt?

Sorry for sounding a bit Vague all and thanks for your comments.
I am going to be getting married in England but live in Switzerland.
So am wondering if I can claim the 20% UK VAT back on all items and services for my wedding. Ie dress, suits, drinks and food bills, actual venue cost etc. Hope thats a bit clearer.

Thanks
David.

You can only get VAT back on goods you export out of the EU
Goods and services consumed in the UK cannot be exported, therefore no VAT refund is possible on items like food bills, drinks, church hire, limousine hire, etc.

And exporting the wedding cake inside your stomach does not count

But you can claim back the VAT on physical items like clothes that you will be exporting. You need to ask the shop where you purchase the clothes for the necessary export forms, and then get the forms stamped at customs.
Depending on what forms you use, you can also maybe collect back the refund at the departure airport.

That's not strictly true VAT *can* be claimed back on meals, hotel stays and other services BUT only if billed to your company.

I spent 2 years travelling back & forth to UK and was able to claim back thousands of francs in UK VAT thru my own Swiss company.

I used this company to do the paperwork for me but you can do it for yourself if you've got the time...

Not strictly true, it has to be for company business, not just be billed to a company, which in the case of a wedding in the UK would be fraud.
