Child support if child doing apprenticeship

If the child is 18 years old already and doing an apprenticeship where she earns her own money (around a fifth of what is the father is earning) still liable for the full amount of child support? Or can he reduce it now because she also earns money and pays for her own everyday things & clothes etc.

No the husband cannot reduce the support, not until the child has qualified or reached age of 25.

If you need help, go to your social services in your Commune, they will help you enforce the court order.

I'm sorry this isn't strictly true. The father remains liable for child support until the child has complete their first "qualification" which can go beyond the child reaching "maturity" aka 18 years of age (). However, an adjustment of how much monthly amount is can vary. With low income earners, (as well as other factors), around 1/3 of the child's own earnings, and in some cases all of it, are included in the calculation as to the child's monthly needs. The amount is then divided between both parents (mother and father), though not necessarily 50/50.

You may have guessed by now, there is no simple answer here and varies depending on each circumstance. What can be said simply, is that the parents must support their child through the first "qualification". That can be the completion of the apprenticeship, a university degree, and in some cases the switch post apprenticeship to a university or higher education qualification.

The amount owed varies greatly depending on many factors including: the relationship between the child and parent, the income and personal financial needs of the parent, the possible income of the child etc.

My advice is to check what the original divorce settlement stipulated regarding child support. Often some of the eventualities and possible grounds for reduction are included. If not, and the financial circumstances on which the initial child support settlement was based on have changed considerably and over a long enough period (years not months) can form the basis for a petition to change the child support settlement. So, this is very much a case for some personal legal advice from a qualified attorney...
