Re: Gynecological Exams in Switzerland: What to expect

Do you mean "treatment" to overcome unnecessary and, frankly, ridiculous embarrassment/anxiety over exposing female anatomy - or treatment of female physical health issues?

Trying not to hit the TMI threshold, as someone who had pudendal nerve damage with birth of first child 15 years ago, and various other pelvic floor issues ever since, I am forever grateful to my mother (a nurse) that I grew up in a home where physical issues were not "shhhh" topic.

To anyone who thinks females have it bad, males are not exempt.

I just mean treatment to work around my ridiculous unnecessary issues, I know how important it is and how NBD it is but unfortunately I have been unable to fully get over some stuff

Pixie, have you found a gynecologist yet? If not,

Dr Beatrice Hung Schreppers:

She is very kind, thorough, and patient. I believe she speaks English as well (although I have only spoken German with her.) Her practice is in Altendorf, not too far from you. I would expect there would be a wait for a new patient routine appointment, as English-speaking female gynecologists seem to be scarcer than hen's teeth in Schwyz.
Thankyou, that's great

Re: Gynecological Exams in Switzerland: What to expect

Gynaecologist was the first thing that I looked for when I moved here since I needed to get my annual check up (something that I already did regularly before moving). I found a female one (only 300 meters from where I live). I lived in Germany before and I can say that the exams here are not that much different from the one I had before. Maybe because I have done it regularly, I don't get any more awkward feeling

Re: Gynecological Exams in Switzerland: What to expect

I had two doctors so far - one in Bern, one in Basel, because I moved.
First time I ve paid all together 700 CHF ( visit 370, rest exams)- standard check up .
In Basel for a 15 min short control I have paid 270 CHF
What are your experiences?
How expensive can 15 min be?

Re: Gynecological Exams in Switzerland: What to expect

Hi ladies, although not strictly on the gyne topic - are yearly physicals common practice in CH? I get one every year in Canada and it is reassuring to get some basic bloodwork and a check in (here you get paps every 3 years during your yearly exam). And if anyone has recommendations for a Hausarzt in the Bern region who speaks English I am very open to suggestions thanks in advance.

I just had my annual exam in Basel a few months ago. Your fees are about what mine are. I don't find the fees outrageous because it is a pretty comprehensive exam and insurance covers most of it anyway.

@dasdasdas: I have a pap every year with my annual exam, not every three years.

No unfortunately yearly physicals are not done here, nor paid for by insurance as far as I am aware. Some checks like for example smear tests and mammography are paid for after a certain age and at regular regulated intervals. I have often felt that doctors' approach seems to be more one of fixing the problem once it is apparent rather than doing checks before there is a problem. But that might just be my personal experience.
