So hard to get the child benefit sorted!

<RANT>
Arrgggh thought this would be really easy.. Two children, one is 3, other is 9 months. We stopped getting child benefit in the UK last year due to my income, for the 3 year old.. The 9 month old never received anything.. We moved here in Feb 2013.
My employer use an external company to do all the paperwork for us so handed them the birth/marriage certs etc.. They told me I needed an E001 form from the UK, an attestation of how much benefit we were paid in the UK and which dates..

So I call HMRC, ask for the form, wait wait wait, six weeks later nothing, call again, wait wait wait.. Eventually after about 4 months I get the letter. It's states 3 year old child was paid x between dates y and z.

So I give that to our agent here to go sort my swiss benefits.. Get a reply within 12 hours, problem. The letter does not mention 9 month old child.. Although they understand she didn't receive anything because she was too young and we left the UK. They still need a letter from HMRC.

So back on the phone.. 45 mins to explain -- Just give me a damn letter which says "nine month old child received zero child benefit ever" ..

Six weeks later, still waiting.. Call again today, we'll send you a letter in 4 weeks.

Suppose it's money in the bank that we're not really missing.

FFS

I advise getting a friendly translator and talking to the whatever the French equivalent of the AHV in your canton, and sorting it out yourself.

Alternative, forge the letter from HMRC confirming the lack of child allowance for your youngest.

It's HMRC that are the problem, so slooooow.. No issues with the authorities here, language is no issue plus I even have an agent doing all the actual paperwork, I just give him the paperwork and sign the bottom line.

I was thinking about forgery, the last letter they sent was rather less than official looking and that was acceepted no problem.

I had same issue I called after 2 weeks though and the HMRC has forgotten my house number which is why I still no letter, complete pain having to go through again but then I got the letter in just over a week as they posted again same day.
Still it made for a nice lump sum payment when it finally went through as they backdated everything to the date of the last uk payment we had been paid.

Re: So hard to get the child benefit sorted!

If you think the UK is bad you should try dealing with the Belgians. It took almost 3 years to get ours sorted out as apparently the forms the sent us were the 'wrong' ones.
Eventually I just had to call the child benefit in Neuchatel and inform them that these were the only ones the Belgians provide and that it didn't matter how many times they said it wasn't any good that was the only one they could give me. A few days later I received a letter saying it was accepted and hey were going to pay everything backdated to when the Belgian payments stopped. That was a very nice windfall indeed. Three years worth of payments and just before Christmas too.

Re: So hard to get the child benefit sorted!

Woooohooo .. Letter arrived finally from HMRC. Took them five months to write :
We confirm that we can find no claim for child benefit for "my child"

Trying to find what the actual rate per child is, anybody know? Some of the info I'm finding on the official vaud.ch and ch.ch sites is old, from 2007!! I'm seeing numbers ranging from 150 per child to 300 per child.

I live in VD but my employment is in GE

According to this link it is 200 chf per month per child in Vaud and 300 chf in Geneva. This is for the first two children. It's 370 in Vaud and 400 in Geneva for the third and any subsequent children.
I don't know if it depends on your place of work or your place of residence ( I suspect the latter) but it would be to your advantage if it was your workplace.

200 chf per month is the minimum child allowance in Switzerland.
