IUI/IVF costs that count toward insurance deductible

Hello All,

I am currently in the process of selecting my insurance and choosing the yearly deductable amount. I have read through the forums that three rounds of IUI and investigative work is covered by insurance. Does anyone have experience with this and could confirm if these costs count toward the deductible? I am leaning toward maxing out my montly payments for the lowest deductible. Is this worth my while? Those with experience with IUI/IVF would you mind sharing with me what your estimated costs toward insurance deductible looked like? Please feel free to PM.

Lastly, if you have good experience with a homebase doctor that gives good referral to your preferred clinic could you please share? I am currently looking at MediX in Zurich 8004.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I just went through the exercise of selecting insurance and the best deductible.

For the compulsory part, I was looking at the standard insurance only and ended up with the conclusion that a max deductible (2500) is the cheapest way to go unless you know you will have high fees. Basically, in the worst possible year (hospital stay or something similarly expensive), the worst possible I could be would be is 500CHF worse off over taking the lowest deductible (300). If you know roughly how much the doctors will cost you, further optimization is possible but for the unknown the 2500 seems to work out sum wise.

I can't answer your ivf question, sorry!

Under Swiss health care law, all insurers have to cover the same benefits.
Maybe you can ask your insurance company about IVF?

All insurers who offer compulsory health insurance must provide the same benefits, which are defined by law.
They may not cover other "optional" benefits under the compulsory health insurance scheme.

Thanks for the responses! I did a bit of calling around today and looks like the basic insurance will cover three IUI treatment and medication. They suggest to have the doctor contact them directly to doublecheck coverage.

Reaching out to others who have gone through this route, it seems that each round of IUI will cost between 700-1000 CHF (with us paying 10% and insurance takes the rest once deductible has been met). If we exhaust all three attempts, minimizing the deductible will be worth it in the end. Signing up for insurance tonight and making appointments in the morning.

EF has been most helpful!! Thanks you guys :)

Hi! I've done IUI and IVF/ICSI here in Switzerland and unless you have an insurance from a UN agency IVF/ICSI are not reimbursed by any Swiss insurance companies. The insurance package is centrally decided... The Swiss federal government has set up this page that is really useful: https://www.ch.ch/en/assisted-reproduction/

Good luck!
