I would like some other reasons why he would be better off waiting till he is older to see all of that.
Why would he be?

I don't know how old you are Baris, but think back to when you were 14 and imagine you came across what K3vi0 was suggesting! would you have been shocked at first?????

I don't want him to go out and have sex until he has a steady girlfriend and he is mature enough.
i'm not trying to be flippant, but what about what he wants? parents so often only see the drawbacks and over-protect their children (which is understandable, but doesn't necessarily make it right).

i also think even at 14 most people are smart enough to figure out how fake it is, but if you are concerned then certainly it's worth clarifying. just without overreacting.

Thanks sambrightman, I see your point I will ask him what he wants. This is one thing I had not thought to do. I will let you know how it goes.

I have always wondered why that "erase history" bug in IE5 +, was never fixed. It was probably retained under fierce lobbying from parents-against-covert-browsing, or some other similarly-named organisation from Atlanta.

What surprises me is that at 14, in this day and age, he is not computer savvy enough to be able to cover his steps, and hide what he has been up to.
Perhaps it would be worth sending him on some computer training course? That might take his mind off it, until such time as he finds a regular girlfriend.

I've been reflecting over that one myself. I am sure Firefox gained market-shares so quickly much because of their superior "clear history" function.

Just thinking back to my own teenage years, having parents using any words even loosely connected with sex was bloomin' painfully embarrassing and accounted for much floor staring and foot shuffling.

I would just tell him "If you want to discuss anything, you know where I am - I was young once, too."

I'm still shuddering from the time my dad tried his level best to explain something to me...

That's exactly what I did, think back and be honest about myself to myself.

What I'm trying to understand is how does the reception of that 'shock' for those in adoloscence/puberty compare to adults. Is there a study done on this that concludes exposure to pornography during puberty is a traumatizing event but otherwise OK in a later age?

Anything has got to be better than a catholic regimen taught in church or school that included going-blind amongst the consequences.

Re: Advice to my 14 year old, why not to look at porn!!

I vaguely recall my sex education at school. When we got to the part of human reproduction in Biology the teacher said "You all know about that don't you?" and that was it. My parents never even discussed it.
Sadly we had no computers in those days, just H & E. Remember that anyone?? So we had to go and find out for ourselves

Re: Advice to my 14 year old, why not to look at porn!!

Stoppit, this thread's tricky enough.

Can we adapt the thread title and take out the '14 year old' part, I wanna see how the responses change: "Advice to my Husband / Boyfriend / Brother, why not to look at pr0n..." or is that a different thread?

Goodness, how the snow brings us out of ourselves...

If he has a drink now and then, its not a big problem. If it becomes habitual and interferes with daily life, then it is.
If he has a quiet smoke from time to time, it probably isn't a big problem. But once he starts stealing cars to pay for it, comes home with needles in his back pocket and he can't lead a normal life - then it is a problem.
If he surfs for porn once in a while, it isn't going to harm him. Once he starts inviting the neighbours over, tying them up, shoving oranges in their mouths, whilst flagellating himself and reciting William Blake - then its a problem.

Providing he's on the right side of reasonable, then hopefully you should only need to give him a little moral guidance.

PS. After reading Polorise's sunday times teenage sex article. I'm scared. Keep the oranges out of the house just to play safe.

only if they don't want him to...
those aren't really fair comparisons
