Re: Making a english will while living in Switzerland
We consulted an lawyer and a notary. English wills (for British citizens who are not also Swiss!) will be respected under Swiss law. However Swiss inheritance taxes will be applied. It is essential that the authorities are aware that you have a will drawn under English law, otherwise Swiss law will apply. You may be able to deposit your will at your local community offices.
We used an online service, as the provisions were very simple. If there's anything even slightly out of the ordinary, consult an English solicitor. For us, it was just a case of
1) First to spouse
2) Then to kids (equal split)
3) Where it's to go if there are spouse and kids aren't survivors
4) Who looks after the kids if they're under 18 when we pop our clogs.
