C-section at Hirslanden clinic in Zurich

Hello
I am 35th weeks pregnant and going to have a C- section at
The Hirslanden clinic.

Is there anyone who can share the experience
at Hirslanden for me?

It's my first baby and I am a little bit worrying about my new experience
of birth.

I would stay in semi private room and wonder what I should prepare
for my admission or information about the atmosphere there

Sharing tips about Hirslanden will become a great help to me

Re: C-section at Hirslanden clinic in Zurich

Hello,

I gave birth there via c section. It's a great hospital you don't need to worry at all. Nurses are extremely helpful. Just make sure you have a bag ready with your clothes and your tooth brush other than that everything is available there. Some nurses didn't speak english however they understood everything I said. Ummmm what else? I had a hard time with breast feeding and found them to be extremely supportive and helpful. They will also help you with bathing and diapering. They can also arrange to have a photographer come and snap shots of your new born baby and you can order as many pictures As u like. I found hirslanden to be a great place to give birth. So don't worry at all. If you have any specific questions let me know.

Re: C-section at Hirslanden clinic in Zurich

My wife gave birth to our 2nd one there with a c-section (Witellikerstrasse 40). Despite being holiday season (29th December) we had a good welcome there. She stayed in a private room. Very clean and quiet hospital, some of the nurses did not speak English but were nevertheless trying to be helpful. All went very well.

Underground parking was available and necessary since the street parking is usually limited.

Insurance covered all expenses but still I could tell it was not a cheap hospital

Re: C-section at Hirslanden clinic in Zurich

I had my daughter via Csection in Klinik im Park, Hirslanden in early August, after an induction that didn't work.

The induction was horrendous, the Cscection was brilliant. The doctor told me he thought it was better to go for the C than another round of induction meds. He discussed the options, we agreed to proceed. The Anesthesiologist then came in and discussed the drugs he'd be giving me, made sure I wasn't allergic to anything etc. We agreed 14.30 as the time to proceed.

I was taken in at 14.30 on the dot, they asked me to curl my back as much as possible, on my side, fetal position. They gave me a local anaesthetic and then something into the spine which made me utterly numb waist down. They then constructed screens above my breasts, had my husband come in, and started.

My daughter was born at 14.48, healthy and without a single problem. My husband was asked to stand up and have a look at her, I was given a chance to look at her little monkey face, and then she was whisked out to complete the first tests, weight check, APGARs etc. My husband got to clip the umbilical cord. She was back with me within 5 minutes, skin to skin on my upper chest, while the Dr and nurses closed me up.

I never felt scared or worried, I felt completely assured that the people around me were professionals and that they really cared about my baby's and my well being.

Oh, and recovery was a doodle. Don't overexert yourself but do make yourself move around as much as possible as early as possible. It helps everything. You'll want your own PJs with easy access for breast feeding (If you're going to). Having some normal clothes will also make you feel more human towards the end of your time there when you want to go home, but you have to wait for the baby to get back to birth weight. Everything else is provided.

From what I've heard, all the Hirslanden kliniks are similarly professional. Don't be scared

Re: C-section at Hirslanden clinic in Zurich

I went there for an MRI, it was exceptional, more like a posh hotel, it had a gift shop, there were people having dinner in a nice looking bar near reception, I was constantly expecting to be thrown out.

incredibly efficient, I barely had time to sit down and avail myself of the free wifi before I was asked by a rather nice young man to take my clothes off, but then the radiologist arrived and that put an end to that.

Re: C-section at Hirslanden clinic in Zurich

I had a C-Section in Klinik im Park earlier this year and stayed in semi-private room for 4 days. My son was born healthy and I had only positive experience with the hospital's conditions and staff. I join the positive feedback from WAA.

I would like to give you one advice. To me after C-Section it was much more convenient to nurse in the nursing room equipped with a comfortable nursing chair and a doughnut-shape Boppy pillow than in my bed using the long nursing pillow. I was very thankful to the nurse who told me about that room. Also it the nursing room I could not be disturbed by the visitors of my neighbor while nursing. I think I was the only person using that room (don't know why) so I could use it whenever my son wanted to eat. I guess all the Hirslanden hospitals have this room, so I suggest that you might try to nurse there and in your room and compare.

Alice, good luck! I'm sure everything will go well!

I was also glad to read the feedback about the hospital from people who've went through birth already (TinyK, InShan...). Recently I've discussed C-section with my doctor as an option, now I see that it's not as scary as I've imagined. We're planning to be in Klinik im Park for the birth of our first baby

Did your doctor present it as an option to you, in other words did you actually choose to have a C-section? Not because of his recommendation, sorry but this is not totally clear from your post.
Back home this is an option, and many women choose it. It's not done only in those cases when it is needed due to medical reasons, I'm really curious if this is an open subject here. It would be much simpler to actually plan everything.

Funny thing - first the doctor said that he can do a C-section if I want it I was a bit surprised because I thought that one needs some med. reasons for it (for ex., if baby lies in a wrong way). So I told him I need some time to think. Now, 1.5 months before due date, the doctor informs me that he won't be in Zurich when my baby is due, so it is a natural way for me (however, C-section remains an option if something won't go as planned).

Thank you for sharing, I hope everything will go well and fast for you!!!

One of my friends here drove herself to the hospital, and everything was over in a few hours. I don't recall if her husband got there in time..so, it is possible.
Optimistic, positive view.
