SCD, Fodmap, Gaps diet

Anyone tried these with success? or even heard of them, they are totally new to me.

I started the intro scd diet a few days ago and noticed immediate improvement to allergic reactions.

its very restrictive and i cried (really) when i read the list of food. i spent a week or so rationalising it can't possibly be chocolate croisants and jelly donuts that are causing weird reactions (7 hour naps after a cornflour piece of cake, crazy skin, sub optimal poops )

I looked into this because someone posted on a gluten free thread the scd 24 hr yogurt was helpful (and i think it is) but its early days.

the premise with these diets is that the some carbohydrates cause gut problems and psychological problems too in some cases.

gaps diet (the most commercial and the website put me off) its based on the scd diet and introduces foods in stages

Re: SCD, Fodmap, Gaps diet

Never heard of any of them and only looked at the links you provided, but they seem to be variations on the Paleo diet idea and also the Best Diet which can be helpful for MS.

Thread here for the Paleo.

Paleo - Anyone here doing it?

Re: SCD, Fodmap, Gaps diet

I don't know much about ms or paleo.

these diets above are being used for people with
ibs,
ulcerative colitis,
chrones disease,
gi tract problems, etc.

some people are using them to see if they will improve autism, autoimmune response problems.

They are being taken seriously by the medical establishment with medical trials (for the gi tract problem aspect) on the go or already completed.

fodmap trials

scd trials
https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01749813
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24897165

gaps trials
no trials found but thats not to say its not effective

Re: SCD, Fodmap, Gaps diet

this is just my musings

there is a study that shows that pigs fed gmos are suffering inflamed intestines,

one of the issues with ibs, chrones, gi tract problems etc is inflamed bowels that result in leaky gut that means mal absorption of food that leads to the problems.

Have you lost a lot of weight? That's the easiest symptom of malabsorption to spot.
Weight loss doesn't necessarily mean it's caused by that though.

Yes, that's one of the theories concerning MS too though for things like grains in general, not just GM grains. Leaking gut means less nuitrients in the blood means less nurtients to the brain leading to a weakening of the brain barrier.

Paleo is short for the Paleolithic Age (about 2.5 milion years ago) when humans were hunter/gatherers. The argument is that we aren't designed to eat things like grains, dairy, legumes, etc, not to mention salt, sugar and food additives and this is what is causing all sort of health problems in the human race. A Paleo diet consists of meat, fish, nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables the same as the scd diet. Many diets aimed at treating various illnesses are based on it as is the Best Bet Diet for MS sufferers.

Good news for you is that there are plenty of cookbooks out there for scd dieters.

Me, I've added the Paleo one to the 3 diabetic cookbooks I bought recently to add to the general cookbook collection.
