Transexual as a coach

My 10 year old daughter joined a local volleyball club last year for 8-12 year olds. Last week, without any notification, the coach brought in a transsexual to help train the team. The person is currently in transition and will be undergoing the operation next year. I believe the person is under psychological evaluation. This person will now be helping train the team.

Am I asking to much to be informed when there is a new coach ? Is this something that I just have to accept?? What is the norm here in Switzerland?

Re: Transexual as a coach

Both. Anyone who has regular contact with my daughter when I am not around, I would like to know. And I would not have an issue with a person who has already transitioned but with someone who is in the process of transitioning and with 8-12 year olds? I am not comfortable with that.

I'll bite. What makes a difference after they're "done" with the transition? Either you accept the transsexual or you don't. Your choice, but the above sounds like a load of bull.

I accept the Transexual as a person. I do not think Volleyball training should be dealing with men in make-up, fingernails and hair.

Re: Transexual as a coach

I gave swimming training for many years, as did Mr. Longbyt, and as far as I can remember, we didn't necessarily inform parents when there was an addition to the coaching team.
Often the children couldn't remember our names anyway! I don't think they cared much. If the parents collected their children, brought them to training, helped in the club and attended competitions, they soon met us all. The Homepage would these days give details of changes.

As a mother, I was rather glad when our children came into contact with gay guys as it meant they knew them as coaches, as friends, as people. (I didn't know any transsexuals (politically incorrect?) or any lesbians at that time). It makes it a lot easier to talk to youngsters about such things if they already have positive experiences. The same also goes for skin colour, for different mother tongue, different religion or different background.

Or cross dressers?

On the flip slip they'd be fine if the coach was Big Boo

How well do you know her other volleyball coach, teachers, pfadi leaders etc etc? Do you have regular dinners with them? Have you met their families? Doctors? Physcologists? And what is stopping you from dong the same with the new woman?

Re: Transexual as a coach

on a slightly more serious note, why not just talk to the new/assistant coach..get an understanding of their approach, skills, method, experience etc. as thats what counts and also gives you an opportunity to judge the character of the person if you are concerned.
