E411 form for child benefit

Hello,
more taxation questions from me!

We have finally sorted out part on my husbands tax tariff and he is currently on B0. In order to get him onto the correct code of B2 (married, one earner, 2 children) the tax office say we need to get HMRC to fill out an E411 form to prove that we have two children and do not receive any benefits in the uk.

When we called the child benefit office they have never heard of this and I have no idea who or where to send it to get it filled out. Anyone else done the same?

Thanks in advance, again!

Re: E411 form for child benefit

Had same conversation 3 years ago

What I ended up doing which satisfied everybody was called HMRC or ChildBenefit place in the UK and asked the to write a one liner on headed note paper which said ; (change to suit you)

I confirm that "child a" has never received child benefit in the UK and "child b" ceased receiving benefit on date 00.01.2009

Yours sincerely the tax office.

They happily wrote the letter and the bank here happily accepted it. All they want to know is that you are not being double paid.

Edit - canton GE and bank is the Caise alpha Banque who administer these things.

Re: E411 form for child benefit

Thank you for your reply, they seem pretty insistent on this form being filled out although I will certainly try your approach too! Ive spent hours trawling the internet and the HMRC and cannot find an address anywhere to send it!

Even the people here in CH couldn't show me what an E411 looked like, I asked them to redact one they already had so that I had an example.. Nope, they couldn't find one, nobody had submitted one

It's a mythical form I suspect, or maybe really old and the Swiss have never updated procedure.

Look on the bright side, it too me 6 months to sort it out and I got the payments back dated !

I probably still have my scanned letter and the acceptance of the authorities here if you are really really really struggling

Well done .. So it's a swiss form which explains why the HMRC never heard of it.. And contains the data basically which HMRC wrote for me.

Good find

Re: E411 form for child benefit

Hi everyone
We are in VD and they are insisting on the actual form e411, despite us having submitted the letter from the UK HMRC a month ago (which was a pain to obtain in itself!). Has anyone had any experience of this, as HMRC don't seem to want to fill out the form and say they've done everything they need to. Frustrating!

Re: E411 form for child benefit

That's confusing. So should HMRC fill in the form attached above or write and stamp a one liner on headed note paper saying "I confirm that child a ceased receiving benefit on date 00.01.2020?

Re: E411 form for child benefit

The form E411 is an EU standard form, and contains the administrative instructions. (nowhere does it mention the taxation office! )

You should complete the downloaded form and give it to the Swiss employer, who should forward it to the Swiss authority paying the Swiss child benefit (This varies between cantons).

The form also states that further copies should be made by the Swiss benefit office and sent by them to the UK office responsible for paying child support. The UK office will then check on the information and return it to the Swiss benefit office, who will then authorise the employer to pay the benefit.

In Switzerland the benefit is paid by a fund financed by the employers in the canton where your company is registered. If you are not employed, then Swiss social security might pay the benefit if you have been employed before in Switzerland.

QUOTE from form E411
Request for certificate
The competent institution responsible for the payment of family benefits in the Member State in which the employed or self-employed
person works,
which wishes to know whether entitlement to family benefits exists in the Member State of residence of the members of
the family, should complete two copies of Part A and send them to the institution of the place of residence of the members of the family.

Re: E411 form for child benefit

Thank you, that's helpful. The child benefit office in the UK is a part of HMRC. We sent them the form once already and got the letter back in response! That's when I checked in with other expats (but not on this forum, which I should have done!) who said the letter had be accepted previously. We'll keep trying. I found the HMRC's own manual online which gives instructions to their officers on how to fill in the form so someone somewhere in the UK must be able to sort it out....

If you don't have a work contract in Switzerland then no you don't as you apply via your employer. You could possibly have applied for it in Italy.

E411

Hello,

Has anybody from the UK completed the E411? And if so how did you go about it? The form seems so complicated?!

Thanks!

Re: E411 form for child benefit

Hi Jukes,

Did this finally get sorted and if so how? I am going through the same issues and there still doesn't seem an answer in all the threads I have read!

Feel like the form is deliberately complicated!

Thanks

I have been asked to fill in the E411 form. How do you get a Wohnsitzbescheinigung from the UK for my three kids, 16,16,14?
