Schulthess Klinik Zurich experiences.

Have you been there for surgery?

Any tips and experiences would be great to hear.

Thanks.

Can't help here NIL- but the most important factor is the surgeon- rather than the Clinic/hospital. Bonne chance x

Re: Schulthess Klinik Zurich experiences.

Can only agree with above, however on basis of my 13yr old son's experience of clinic for investigation/diagnosis, pre-op care, op and post-op, and subsequent follow-up, I would give a 2-thumbs up. We chose the Schulthess over Balderklinikken, as the doctor's manner with our son made him feel very involved with his situation (and sparked his own interest in sports medicine). It was a personal chemistry thing, have little doubt that the other surgeon was also very competent.

The only downside of a clinic like that for a short stay, is the elaborate menu and wine options are not really appropriate post-op, even more so if one is 13! Toast and a boiled egg please!

Re: Schulthess Klinik Zurich experiences.

I am being referred by the surgeons team I am with since last year. Being a very difficult and special case, they feel the team of the clinic in Zurich might bring an other perspective.

According to my surgeons, they are the Dr. House of Switzerland. They are working on all the shitty cases.

I'm interested to know about the stay. If my docs have such a high respect for their team, I'm feeling confident they are excellent.

Hope that doesn't mean you're a shitty case too Nil.

Best wishes and hope you're better soon.

Yeah sadly I have a real shitty case. They could do a thesis about me. At least they don't give up on me.

No direct experience with the clinic. But recently the Sheikh of Qatar went there with 3 Airbuses when he broke his leg in Morocco and given that he has unlimited funds and choice, it does say a lot about the reputation of the clinic.

Bon courage!

Re: Schulthess Klinik Zurich experiences.

Yes, I was recommended this clinic by my doctor who said it was very good. Had a hip operation. The op was fine, the post op time in hospital was excellent. Luckily the surgeon spoke good English and explained every step of the way. Good follow up too.
The long menu was in German no translation but they did offer to help me. Anyway I would give the clinic 9/10.(Never give 10)

Good Luck with your operation.

Oh wow! If it's good enough for the sheikh, it should be good enough for me!

Too late for the edit button, in my reply above I meant Balgrist (not Balder...that is in Oslo)

Re: Schulthess Klinik Zurich experiences.

Had my shoulder operated on at Balgrist (same complex) in September. All went very well. The surgeon is clearly the most important factor. I spent a few nights there and I was very pleased with the care.

The food is good, the care is attentive and the staff helpful. Only thing (and I survived it) is that the night nurses are the ones that tend to not speak English. I would guess that about 2/3rd of the nurses spoke very good English, but a few did not, so it would be good for you to know a few basic German phrases - related to things you might need or want. 'Like - I have pain, can I have some more pain killers, please.'

If you need physio therapy, the staff is very friendly and professional - I have been going back there now twice a week since September!

Good luck!

-D

Re: Schulthess Klinik Zurich experiences.

I had my hip re-surfaced at the Schulthess just over two years ago and I can't sing their praises enough; the facilities and care are top-notch and, as far as I can tell so far, the surgery was a huge success. As someone pointed out before, it's really all about the surgeon and his/her speciality and experience. The website has a bio on all their surgeons, so that should be a good starter.

The Sheik of Qatar definitely liked it when he was there about a month ago. Employees were tipped for up to 3k CHF.

Re: Schulthess Klinik Zurich experiences.

I can confirm, it was top notch!!

From the check in to the room service team, passing by the very attentive and funny anesthesiologist to the very kind nurses. I'll say 90% of the entire team who attended to me spoke English.

The food was absolutely fabulous. I still have a lovely memory of the delicious Bison I was served.

The doctor was professional, kind, supportive and available.

Only negative point was the roommate from hell I had to share my room with. Not the hospital fault as the rooms were all full and they couldn't switch me to an other room. That was just a bad luck.

I would recommend this hospital to anyone. I would go again but I hope I never have to, ever again to any hospital.

Re: Schulthess Klinik Zurich experiences.

Hi I am a special case too and was recommended to go to schultess. Surgery is planned in a month and I have some concerns.
I have never been in a private hospital before here and I am concerned that they don't have enough doctors should something happen during surgery.

I am also concerned that it's money first and patient second hence to your point about the sultan of Qatar.

I am used to unispital or hug in Geneva and I'm worried that if anything happens they don't have a proper icu or somthring like that. In the uk different story of course but here I tried a few private clinics for emergency light things and wasn't thrilled and when my husband and I had big emergencies we went to the unispital and they were great.
I checked Balgrist and they don't have enough competence for what I have. Hirslanden is a bit like bupa so it depends on the surgeon.
Does anyone have a view?

I like the comment about the dr. House of Switzerland. I had not realised that but you were spot on.

Thanks I'm very worried so any help welcomed
