| | Is it worth going to the dentist in Germany?
I just received a quote of 1850 CHF for a crown from the dentist in Zurich.
Will I save money by going to the dentist in Germany?

And factor in that you might end up needing more than one visit.

Which could be awkward if you have an emergency.
I still go to my dentist in Germany but that started only because I lived 5 mins from the German border.

I travelled a way ( 1 hour 15 mins) to a dentist in Germany for a crown, they saw from X-rays what work needed to be done. They did the work, I saved around 600 - 1,000 fr (can't remember exactly). Afterwards my dentist and hygienist both commented that it was really well done. I only needed one visit. It could be worth it but I wouldn't go just anywhere….

On the pros: cheaper for same quality if you are careful where you go.
On the cons: my dentist has my complete history and knows me very well so can quickly find out any new problems or revisit old ones. My checkups know what to look for etc
We do overpay at CH though, 450chf for a filling and a cleaning is way too much.

I pay a lot for my dentist in Zurich (Dr Markus Mettler), but he is so good. If you find a great dentist it's almost worth paying the extra because poor dentist work is the worst thing that can happen. The fact that he knows my complete history, my likes and dislikes is really valuable to me. He is also really honest and doesn't push me into anything. ('This needs to be done now', 'This can wait', etc) I guess it just depends on whether you are willing to pay for this 'comfort'

Can someone recommend a dentist in Germany near the Swiss border. I live in Zurich.
I would like to get a second opinion and a quote, before I proceed.

I would like to get a second opinion and a quote, before I proceed. | | | | | My dentist in Jestetten is very good (in my opinion, and now my Swiss husband`s too).
I first visited his surgery after being quoted here Sfr6,500 for something (too complicated to explain) - my son here recommended I try this dentist - for a quote - which I did - he quoted me Euro 1,200 for complete job. I was very happy with the work (I even got 10% discount for cash).
So I`ve stayed with my German dentist. Regular cleaning costs about 60 Euro.
A month ago I had toothache, got appointment for next morning, Xrays revealed an infection in root, they did a treatment, which cured the problem. Said it should be totally cured within 2 weeks, which it was. Cost was Euro 152.
Dr Oliver Hamm in Jestetten (to save having to reply to pm`s )
Next door to the Aldi shop/near train station.
By the way, only Dr Hamm himself speaks English, his other dentists seem to only speak German.

With my half yearly check by the dentist and the full works around 100 EUR (but then she needs quite some time and my teeth build up plaque quickly)

I often go to a DIY dentist in the UK. This is pretty common there. | This user would like to thank k_and_e for this useful post: | |
