As per my posts upthread, my friend, a chronic pain patient, has a prescription for medical cannabis here.

Your doctor here needs to apply to the BAG for a permit for you. This assumes, of course, that your doctor has determined that this is the right therapy for you. Do not be surprised if your doctor will first insist on a thorough examination of your condition and trialing other meds, and it's possible that your GP will refer you first to a specialist in your condition or to a pain specialist. From my friend's experience, prescribing cannabis drops was the last resort, driven by the need to get off daily morphine.

AFAIK, the only form allowed is a tincture, and there is still only one pharmacy allowed to dispense it, in Bern. My friend receives her tincture in the mail, renewal of the prescription is easy.

Be aware that the KK rarely covers the cost of cannabis drops, be prepared for the out of pocket expense.

So start with your GP.

I had a medical marijuana card in the states and brought it with me. Do you think I can ask my doctor if it can be prescribed for me here in Basel?
Yes, but it requires an individual Ok by the federal authorities, see meloncollie above. Getting that is is extremely difficult and time consuming.

Currently and AFAIK, Sativex (page in French, Italian) is the only legal drug that contains THC (around 2.5% THC and CBD each). It's a spray that's to be sprayed into your mouth to alleviate severe spastic symptoms. Only a doc specialised in Multiple Sclerosis can authorise the initial treatment.

Does anyone have experience getting it here legally from a medical perspective? I'm really at a loss because no one I know smokes, much less smokes weed for medical reasons.
Possession of up to 10 grams marijuana is no longer to be prosecuted due to a recent ruling by the federal court. So you need to be careful when you buy and consume, but (at least in theory) not when you have it in your pockets or at home. However, not all cantonal police forces respect that verdict (yet?) so your reality depends on the Canton you're in.

Yes it's crazy but that's how it is for the time being (looks like it will change within a few years, there's a lot of pressure to be less strict and more rational from many sides).

Re: Cannabis?

Thank you all for the information. I really appreciate it. I don't really want to list all of my autoimmune diseases I have here but my doctor is a specialist that I had before I left Basel the first time in '17. In fact, I found her from suggestions from this board so that worked out very well for me, thank you very much. I was diagnosed with bursitis last summer which confirmed my suspicions about chronic pain in my joints over the years. Thankfully not a problem at the moment but it comes randomly. I can't tolerate pain medication that has opioid components and that's why cannabis helps me and keeps me moving. I will ask her at my follow up appointment next week.

I assume, LittleGirl also doesn't want to buy it off the street.

I certainly wouldn't either but fortunately I have no interest and no need (yet).

That wasn't clear to me from the first post. And though she doesn't want to she may still chose that option out of necessity.

Consider. . Eat it... Juice it... raw and fresh or as a consumable oil! Smoking is smoking... not good!

This backs up what Dr Emoto said years ago. Hemp (btw is not cannabis... it is a non-psychoactive sister plant) grows naturally across North America. Its real job is to purify the soil and the air https://www.rxleaf.com/hemp-cleans-u...lB9yE:msngrin:

Hemp also contains THC, just much less.

They are different cultivars of the same plant, same as sweet and hot peppers.

If only it was a little more robust and resilient, it would grow like weed.
