My husband just got a yellow fever and a hepatitis vaccine yesterday at CHUV in Lausanne. He was in and out in 20 minutes. He said it was very efficient. Apparently, they have a whole office/lab set up just for travelers' vaccinations and, as he doesn't speak a word of French and he did this without me, I can only imagine that it must have been a very, very painless experience. |

I'm heading to Africa in a few weeks.
Is there a similar such facility or specialized Dr who can take care of my shot needs in/around zurich?

Yeah, proof is required by the tour operator. Since I don't have any records of vaccines todate---do you know if the Zurich Clinic give me one to start documenting?

I would suspect that the Zurich centre will provide one if you don't already have one. I have never been to the Zurich centre before though.
As mentioned, you need these books as proof of vaccination for visa applications so it would not make much sense for the Vaccine provider to not provide some proof of the vaccine.
I got my yellow fever Vaccine in Rorschach and they gave me the Vaccine book.
I had a slight reaction to the Vaccine some days later though. Nothing serious, just felt hazy and weak for about 24 hours. It was definitely a different sensation to other colds etc.... Anywho, I mentioned it to some colleagues and they confirmed that something similar happened to them.
Having said that, it really was nothing, and I would not let it put you off getting the Vaccine.

Thanks!
I assume I'm up to date with vaccines (the general ones). I never really kept track, but since I have surgery every couple years, they always ask me if I've had them, I respond not sure, so they give them to me again to be safe--but I guess they forget to give me a booklet for proof.

If you wouldn't mind, could any of you who have gotten a yellow fever vaccination in Switzerland tell me the approximate cost? I am supposed to get one tomorrow but I was told 200 Francs on the phone, which seems high (another estimate on this site was 60).
The person on the phone seemed upset about my poor Italian, and unfortunately this wouldn't be the first time I've been overcharged or short changed for that reason.

I had one last summer at the Swiss Tropical Health Institute in Basel, and as I recall it was around 100 francs.

I have to go (probably early next week), and since I don't have any record book, I"m guessing I will be getting the whole spectrum of vaccines. I'm guessing Yellow Fever vac. isn't covered by Krankenkasse---are other shots covered?
I'm budgeting a good 1000 francs to be on the safe side.

I cant remember what I paid exactly for the yellow fever vaccine but at the same time I got a shot for Polio and I think one of the Hepitias, a couple of packs of malaria medicine and some diarrhea tablets. That was about 500CHF in total.

I got the hep A, Poliorix IPV, vivotif pills for tyfus, 3 weeks worth of malarone, and yellow fever exemption.
Total came to 367.90. At the UZH clinic by central. Entire deal took about an hour and a half--cash only.

The certificate is only valid [def: producing the desired result; effective] 10 days after the injection.
Sure, adding a preposition would have made it more clear, but without a negative indicator such as "until 10 days" or "for 10 days" it does mean that the validity period starts 10 days after injection.
