Second baby on the way, do we need to do the exact same process all over again for the second kid or since we did the first one there's automatic recognition?

We just did ours. its better before the child is born. You will need to make an appointment at the gemiender where you live.

You will need copies of your birth certificates. Evidence you are not married. permits. Cant think of any thing else. You will submit these and get an appointment to meet in person at the gemiender. Actually only the guy has to go and the mother is informed. If you dont speak German you will need a translator. Pay a bit of money and you get a couple of signed documents.

These documents should be also sent to the hospital you choose to give birth in and have a copy for yourselves, maybe take them in the birthing bag you take as well

To answer my own question, yes for second child and every child you repeat the same process. Less paperwork though, just need passports and permits.
